I have a verizon sierra wireless aircard 595 with winXP Pro. I have a wireless network set in my home, and after I installed the aircard, the wireless couldnt find the wireless network. I checked the hardware manager, and it showed that the internal wireless card was installed, but not working (thank you windows). The suppport told me to reinstall it, so I did, and now it wont reinstall (thank you again windows). I need to know how to connect to the wireless, because i need the network, and the wireless speed is vastly superior to the aircard. Thank you in advance!

I have heard that there is a way to receive high speed as long as you have a wireless card in your notebook and not have to have service? How is this possible and how do I do it?

p.s. and yes I am cheap and like things free whenever I can!

I have a problem with a Windows service not being able to see the network at all.

The network configuration is not the problem because the network is up and network drives are all accessible with UNC.

Here is a brief overview:
This computer/user (ex. LOCAL1) is running a Windows service that scans files on a remote networked computer(ex. REMOTE1). I have set this up as both an application and a process. The application has no problem seeing the REMOTE1 computer from LOCAL1, but when run as a service the network is inaccessible and REMOTE1 cannot be accessed.

I have tried looking at the specific folder on REMOTE1, under properties, security tab, add user/group, locations, but the only location that shows up there is REMOTE1 (so I cannot add LOCAL1:User to the list of users with full access). This seems to not be the issue though because the service CAN'T see the network at all.

Any thoughts on why Windows services cannot see the windows network? Permission issue or other?

Using a packet-sniffer, I've observed that my computer, when idle, receives a modest amount of UDP traffic. It's from a variety of IP addresses, and it all heads to port 50170. The originating ports vary; as far as I can tell, none of them are registered for any specific purpose. I thought that it might be DNS stuff, but it's not on port 53 and it's none of the ip addresses in question come up when I view my DNS table.

So what is it? Why are multiple computers sending me stuff over UDP on port 50170?

If you can't answer that, what sort of things can I do to find out?

I confess, I'm a cyber bully, and I'm ashamed of the things I've done.

One of my fellow cyberbullies and myself made it a habit to pick on one kid in particular relentlessly.

About a year ago I pretended to be the kid's friend and he told me his password, which I told to the other bully.

Now he uses the password for EVERYTHING: AIM, facebook, myspace, email, you name it.

The other bully goes into the kid's accounts on occasion and screws with things, but I don't want to bully the kid anymore, and I regret ever talking him into giving me his password.

I've since warned the victim that there are people out there who know his passwords, urged him to change his passwords for everything, apologized for everything I did and blocked all contact between the other bully and the victim.

However, I feel/know that this isn't enough, what should I do?

I have two computers connected to one with a router, the "host" computer has limited or no connectivity, when I click on repair it says "cannot renew ip"
(the other computers still work fine)
I think that the problem is that someone must have used run: command and may have accidently deleted some prompts when using ping, because when I went to it, it had about a minute delay and had an error, is there a way to restore the prompts that were originally there?
it was working fine yesterday)

I have a requirement to set up a simple, local, hotspot, mainly to provide a testbed and information source, so I just need to serve a few local pages, welcoming users, giving some information, etc. No onward access to the net, no billing, no user control.
To acehive this, I have a budget of about 50c, a spare PC (running XP, not able to change), a wireless router/access point and a lot of patience.

Has anyone been down this road before? Any hints/ tips? Or ready-made solutions :-)

Guy’s I’m having problem with the dhcp server. The server is Windows 2000 server based. It’s not leasing out IP address for some reason and when it does it conflicts with another user on the server. I have 46 clients here and it’s causing me headaches going around and putting static IP address, your help will be deeply appreciated.

I'm going through the Cisco CCNP program - I'm now in my CCNA. I desperately need my own routers at home, as I live so far away from the school's lab. However, I'm pretty ignorant of what kind of router I'll need. Money is a concern, too, and I don't mind buying used. I was thinking of buying an appropriate router off eBay. Can someone recommend a specific router (model and such)? One I had looked at only had one ethernet port, which didn't seem good, and someone asked about modules..... Any help would be appreciated, especially someone already in networking.

Well. My friend is opening up a coffee shop and he wants to use his laptop just like an access point so people will connect to his wifi spot and they will connect to it. Then when they connect to it they will have to pay for the use of the internet and they will have access after the credit card information and username andp assowrd have been entered correctly. Can you please explain how it is done and how i can do it? Thank you very much.

I have a domain ABC.local in the DMZ and domain XYZ.local on our inside network (All Windows 2003 servers). The networks are linked through a PIX 525 firewall.

dmz----------------inside
[ABC]---[PIX]---[XYZ]

I create an external trust but when I try to validate the trust on either side it gives me an error about no logon servers being available.

I opened firewall ports 135, 88, 389, 3268, 3269, 137-139, 445 between the the DC's.

What else is missing? If DNS is involved, how/where are the necessary lines created?

suppose I am using a 54Mbps wireless access card.. which is about equal to 56kbps or the average telephone line access speed. Why is it that the wireless card seems to be so much faster than connecting with a telephone line which is about the same speed if you do the math.Really stupid question I know but I am curious...
