I have an Acer 5050 running Windows XP sp2 that uses an internal Atheros wireless card. When my computer first boots up, it starts off loading applications...but then when it gets to the part where the wireless network icon should popup.. the computer stops loading applications for about 30 seconds/one minute, and then all of a sudden starts loading again, starting with the network icon and everything else after.

How can I fix this

Thanks a million

I have my PC plugged into the wired, and my laptop getting a wireless signal from the wireless one. is there a way to have both be considered on the same network or work group even though they are on different routers? i cant figure it out. i basically wanna do this so i can file share in between them.

Third wireless notebook computer of three total being given access to the home wireless network. Unit 1 has XP Home, Unit 2 has XP Home, incoming Unit 3 has Vista. I cannot get Vista to accept my home network WEP code. I do not wish to constantly change the WEP code. I have a 6-char code now, Vista wanted a 5 or 10 char code. I changed to 10, it asked for 5. I set it at 5, it said error:not correct code. What can I do to correct? Im ready to wipe Vista clean off this thing. Its a pain in the donkey.

Thanks ahead of time.

I have connected my 2 computers through crossover cable. My main pc is connected to the net through a USB cable modem. I have set the Lan IP address as 192.168.0.1 and my other- laptop as 192.168.0.2. Few months back I had no problems with the lan. Later then after I had to reinstall windows in my PC, my lan has been suffering. Whatever I do , no computer can recognise the other. Although my ethernet card shows that lan cable is connected, I cant seem to find the other computer in my network places. I have tried the network setup wizard but have failed miserably. I even tried disabling my net connection n looked whether it worked, but it vain. There is no problem with the lan cable, as I able to connect to other computers with the laptop. But at home I am not able to do so. Could any1 help me out

Hi all -

I've got Cisco VPN v.4.6.04 and a D-Link DI-525 wireless router. The router is working fine and has been for over a year. My Cisco connection also has been working fine for quite some time.

Yesterday, after doing some tweeking with DRTCP, really just changing th MTU to 1500, every time I start the Cisco VPN my router would reboot about a minute afterwards. I change the MTU settings back but that doesn't seem to change anything - the router still reboots.

I've turned on logging on the router but it doesn't show anything special.

I reinstalled Cisco today and will try the connection later tonight, but has anyone else encountered something similar? Is there some other place (log file) I can see what's going on?

Thanks!

I have a person that works in two separate offices as a manager. Each office is in a separate location, dev pool, partition...etc, and each has a different directory number. The current manager will switch locations on a regular basis and wants to have it so it doesn't matter if one or the other line is called, it will ring in either office. Presumably, a new person will soon be hired to take over as manager in one or the other office, so I don't want to implement sharing the lines between offices, because although that might be the easiest solution, it's not good to have lines from different partitions appearing all over the network on devices in other partitions...it could quickly become a mess.

So, I'd just like to have both numbers ring at the same time when one or the other is called. I was looking at line groups and hunt lists, but don't want to create a new hunt pilot number that people have to remember to call, or they'd have to change the directory listing.

my boss came to my work the other night because he knew someone was on the computer. he parked in the parking lot next door and snuck through the woods in hopes of catching who it was. it turned out that it was the librarian's son doing a health project. and my boss knew exactly what he was looking at also. all the computers in the school are part of a network but i didnt know that he could have access to all of them from his laptop. he's not a principal or computer teacher or anything. just a facilities manager. so how did he have access to do that? i really want to know because i dont appreciate him spying like that and thinking that its me and then sneaking around trying to catch me. its very insulting.

I need to send alert messages immediately to a few named computers out of several hundred. The machines are all Windows based, but some cannot use Microsoft .NET Remoting (unfortunately). We also would like to go through firewalls. Here are some options I'd like to consider:

- Sockets (Negative factors: Effort, Must open port)
- Microsoft .NET Remoting HTTP (No .NET Framework on some)
- Purchase third-party package. (Positive: Quick, Easy to support)

The ideal is to do direct communication over the network without .NET Framework and through firewalls. I'd prefer not to use DCOM or Corba. Can you recommend a third-party messaging package that we might evaluate (even if it's not ideal).

I have a Linksys wireless receiver attached to my desktop and my landlord has a Linksys wireless router. I have using his service with few problems the past year until last Sunday when now I get the page not found message no matter what address I type in. It says the wireless signal is good to excellent. It is doing this on both my desktop and my laptop. Any ideas on why it is doing this and how to fix it?

I was fiddling around today with XP and the IPCONFIG tool.. I found out that as well as an IP adress, I have a SUBNET MASK and a DEFAULT GATEWAY...

Ive heard these expressions before but cant work out what either of these codes are for! All I can work out is that the default gateway is something to do with routers...

...and whats with the number 255.255.255.0 ?? Is the subnet mask always that number?!?!

Please help!!!
