I have already finished my Bachelor's of Science Degree Major Hospitality/Tourism, but after working a year realized this is not the field that I really want to do the rest of my life. (I really just fell into that major to get a degree). After doing a little research I found computer networking to be something I really interested in and could see myself doing.
The problem is I don't know where to begin. I understand that along with courses, I need certifications (A+, CCNA, etc) and experience. I don't know whether to just start completely over in the field to get adequate knowledge (get an associates) or would it even be possible to major at a university and get a second bachelors degree in computer science? My basic question is what would be the best route to pursue a career in this field considering my educational background? What would be the approximate time that I would be able to finish all certifications and be able to start a career?

I reinstalled my operating system on my hp zv6000 series laptop. When I did this I installed all of the standard features including hp wireless assistant. It appears that the only function I can use with wireless assistant is turning on and off my computer’s ability to search for wireless networks, it allows me to turn whatever “WLAN” is on or off. Before I reinstalled the operating system I could search for wireless networks that were within range, it appears that this capability is gone so I can’t connect my wireless internet at home. Last time, when I initially installed the operating system on the computer I had no problems getting the wireless internet to work, I don’t know what I did or what I am forgetting now but that is what I need help with, I am missing the feature that allows you to search for wireless networks in range. I have also tried to set up a wireless connection with the wireless network setup wizard and the normal network setup wizard. Could someone please he

My DSL cable goes directly from the wall to the modem, then to the router!

I have an aircard in my laptop and I have wireless adapter for my xbox.

My question is, is it possible to make my network secure like I have it set up? I am thinking not because there is nothing controlling the router...

Or do I need to run the DSL cable from the wall to the modem to a DESKTOP COMPUTER THEN TO THE ROUTER! Im thinking that is the way I have to do this to set up a secure network so that others cant piggyback on my connection...

I really had rather do it the way I have it set up, but am wondering from yall if I can!

Thanks!

Hi,

I've configured my router firewall to allow:

Port 443 - TCP - Outbound

But it when I log into https:// websites the website works temporarily but then the connection times out.

when I connect direct to modem, I do not get this problem.

Any help?

Cheers

I'm using windows XP. I'm too broke for regular internet, so right now I an using free dial up (not too reliable). But also I live right at the outer range of a free wifi hotspot that I can just barely connect to using a cantenna. (I've tried many antennas, this has been the strongest). But even with that, the signal goes in and out and only works 1/3 of the time.

Well the problem is, whenever the wifi experiences trouble, my dial up connects and completely TAKES OVER, so that even when the wifi gets signal again, my computer sticks with using the slow dial up signal.

This gets really frustrating when its constantly dialing, and many times I'll disconnect, and the wifi will go down 2 seconds later, so I'm waiting 60 more seconds to reconnect on dial up.

Is there any way (either a setting, or even software) to make the wifi take the high priority rather than the dial up. Or even better, use them both simultaneously, so I'm not doing constant juggling?

I currently do not have a wifi router, but I have 2 laptops. If I plug one laptop into the RJ-45 cable to connect to the internet, is there any way I can use the laptop's wireless to allow my other laptop to also connect to the internet? Both are running XP. I'll have my router back in a couple days, I just want to get both computers connected until then.

At this moment I have a Linksys wireless G broadband router 54Mbps. Installed on my Dell XPS 210 I have a Belkin USB stick also running at 54Mbps. I have an Xbox 360 plugged directly into the router and plan on keeping it that way. My computer is smaller than most and most Wireless cards will not fit. I could find a smaller wireless card but would rather go the USB route. I know running at 54Mbps is basic but I dont have much experience in the wireless world. Any suggestions?

I don't think my ethernet connection on my computer is working. Is it possible that it is diabled for some reason, and if so how do I enable it? Is it possible that just because I have an ethernet port on my computer, that it isnt necessarily ethernet capable? I am trying to hook up a belkin router and tech support says the ethernet port is the problem. I think he is right. Can anyone help me with this problem?
