my boss came to my work the other night because he knew someone was on the computer. he parked in the parking lot next door and snuck through the woods in hopes of catching who it was. it turned out that it was the librarian's son doing a health project. and my boss knew exactly what he was looking at also. all the computers in the school are part of a network but i didnt know that he could have access to all of them from his laptop. he's not a principal or computer teacher or anything. just a facilities manager. so how did he have access to do that? i really want to know because i dont appreciate him spying like that and thinking that its me and then sneaking around trying to catch me. its very insulting.

kitty this is VERY easy to do , as a network admin that runs over 26 servers a 400 + work stations i dont have time in the middle of the night to get up drive 26 miles to work to fix a issue , so i can remote
to the network using a vnc connection or a rdp connection once in the network i can see every user that is currently on and if need be a can shadow that user with out them even knowing i'm watching , if your boss has the permission on the network to do this , this would be my guess as how he would know

Yeah, he probably has some monitoring software installed. Some states require companies to keep logs of this stuff, so like it or not you may not have any choice to stop it. Also, what do you have to worry about if you only use the computers for work-related activity? I always assume when I use any PC that is not mine that everything I do could potentially be monitored and observed. Also, I assume that any email I send or website I visit could be tracked. This way I won't do something I shouldn't....
