is it possible to plug two computers directly together via ethernet cable and play unreal tournment(game of theyear edition) between them. In other words can i plug one end of a ethernet cable into the ethernet card of computer A and the other end of it into the ethernet card of computer B, and be able to play a game of unreal tournament against computer B. if this is not possible what is the cheapest way to network 2 computers together for mulitplayer game play.

No, not with a regular ethernet cable anyway. You need what's called a crossover cable to directly connect two computers. It's still an ethernet cable, just different wiring.

You can do this with a crossover cable. A crossover cable is similar to a standard Ethernet cable only you cross wire 1-3 and 2-6. If you can do this yourself I would recommend it. If not you can purchase one for about $10. Otherwise get yourself a cheap router $20 and connect your computers that way.

You can use a crossover cable, although I would suggest either a switch or router (router being preferred due to DHCP) due to the limitation of only one person with you in the crossover cable deployment.

the easiest and cheapest way would be to use a crossover cable. A regular ethernet cable won't work. You can find them here!
