Linksys WRT54G

^has always worked GREAT for me and is cheap^ ($40)

And its a common router so if you do need help with it, it is easy to get support.

If you go with one of the new long range wireless units, remember you'll need the same kind of card for your pc too.

Why not just fix what you have? Why not just relocate the wireless router closer to your place? That's what my neighbor and I did. 2 walls instead of 3 and it worked fine.

Also, if you set your pc to use only "b" (not b/g), it will work much better.

Or why not run a wire over to you since you're next door? Wired is always better than wireless.

Thirdly, you could just get a wireless extender unit. Much cheaper.

Anyone with signal issues should try pacwireless.com for an antenna, I have 12dbi omni's on ebay all the time. (and they sell for cheap) I know its on the pricey side (used on ebay $300) but i have a cisco AP1200 and it hasnt been rebooted for about 8 months (even that was for a software update) and i have it in my basement. I have a strong enough signal to run a wifi voip phone out to the garage (60 ft or so away, mind you the strait shot to the antenna is through the ground at that point) Water and ducting are the biggest killers of signal....and prob lead paint...

A instant get right of entry to element sends/gets radio alerts to/from a instant gadget (pc, pda, cellular telephone/pocket computing device) and transmits it to a cable connection (ethernet or maybe rg-fifty 9 for older networks). A instant Router does all the above PLUS it connects a WAN (ISP connection) to a LAN connection. It additionally often applications as a change (often has 3 or 4 ports for lan connections). in many circumstances, you are able to set up a Router to function purely as an get right of entry to element, yet you won't be able to do the opposite.

To be completely honest with you...Wireless sucks...Always get disconnected, it's ridiculous, we have it at the office, and it's soooo annoying. Very frustrating..Get it with DSL or something. WE have the netgear router...it's not good, so i would suggest something else. We paid a lot for it and it's still not good. So all i have to say is GOod luck

its a router --- try the Netgear or Linksys wireless router. they are both about the same. the Linksys may be a bit easier to set up.

Use an 802.11N router, as it has much greater range than older 802.11A/B/G routers. Here are two of them:
