It shuts off at very random times as if I have pressed the "off button". It does it even when there has been no keys pressed and when there is no task being performed. It will run normally for hours on end then click-off and continue to click off even as I am trying to restart it. It seems to be better after it sits for an hour or so before restarting.

Overheating!
There are some items that cause this, if you have used it on your lap you may have picked up "lint" and clogged the fans.

Your fans may not be turning at the correct speed.

You are using the unit without enough "air" reaching the fans.

I just had to take the fans out of my wifes HP for a good cleaning, hers was doing the same thing. Seems she likes to sit in her chair with the unit on her lap, many times on top of a blanket! (Bad combo!)

Sounds like it might be overheating. What kind of surface is it siting on? If you have the thing sitting on Shag carpet, thats a big NO. Try placing it on a table top surface. Also, you can get external laptop fans:

Run a virus scan, and see if you are infected.
