i just bought a refurbished Netgear WGT624v3 Wireless Router that came with no installation software. From my understanding, no software is needed but I cannot connect or log on to my router. I have tried doing this through an open Internet Browser window and typing in the IP address 192.168.1.1 and all I get is an error page saying "Cannot find Server." I have also tried pinging it and I get no response. I have done both of these while plugged in to my laptop and while unplugged(wireless). Could it be possible that this refurbished router is bad? or am I doing something wrong? I also purchased a Netgear Network Adapter for faster speeds and it loaded up and is working fine but doesn't see any available networks in range. HELP!! Should I return it for another?? Any ideas??

I want to network my notebook computer to my desktop in the house so I can easily send files between the two, but I don't know how. Here is what I have, and what I have tried.

I have a Belkin Wireless G router.
I have a free ftp server installed on my desktop.

I've tried using an ftp program to connect to the ftp server on my desktop so I can swap files that way, but the notebook won't connect to the desktop. I'm wondering if the router is interfering, and what I need to do to connect.

Is this the best way to home network, or is there another way?

Basically what I need to know is how do I get my notebook and desktop to communicate so they can share files. Thank you!

We had someone setup a wireless home network, and the person wrote the network key down wrong (or it just doesn't work) and he is nowhere to be found. We now need to add another computer to the network - but can't because we don't have the right network key/password. Is there a way to override it, or could we somehow delete the home network and start a new one? We need to access the internet from this new computer, but we can't get it added to the network. If we deleted the network, at least we could access the net. We have Window XP media center on the host computer.

My router has been giving me problems, and I want to revert back to the broadband modem. Is it just a case of unplugging the router and installing the modem again, or do I need to reset the router, then unplug. Very confusing.

I have an issue with my desktop. At least once a day i lose my assigned ip of 192.168.0.104 and it changes it to a private ip address of 169.254.141.85. I cant renew the ip address through windows, it freezes when it tries to repair it. If i unplug the Ethernet cable and plug it back in, it never gets assigned an IP. If use the command prompt and type ipconfig /renew it hangs indefinelty. The only way to solve it seems to unplug the cable and shutdown. If i do a plain restart the card is in the same state.

The usually occurs after i've come out of standyby a few times.

Thanks

I'm on a small network with 5 computers and two wireless computers. I've assigned my ip through the router based on the mac address

The layout is

Cable Modem--->D-link router--->with all the computers and the voip adapter behind the routher.

Am trying to hook up my 2nd computer in a different room using HomePNA, already have the 2Wire phone line filter, a 2Wire USB phoneline network adapter, what else do I need. Any driver to be installed? Do I just connect them?

2nd question is: Pros and Cons of installing the Yahoo Browser, I'd been using without it for a couple of years, am I missing anything?

Thanks all

Ok, my problem started like yesterday. I decided that I would reinstall my Windows XP OS. After I went through the process of reinstalling the OS, I went to go onto my internet, but it will absolutely not connect. Is there anything I need to install to make the internet work? Or is it the network adapter?
