what does "Repeaters and hubs propagate collision; LAN switches, bridges and routers do not. " mean....i dont' understand this phrase...can someone explain it better to me...thanks

I need to send a fax using my computer, but the two fax programs that I have are unable to locate my modem. I get an error message saying it's not connected. I have tried using hyperterminal and that will work and dial through. I need to scan and send a page...I'm on a Windows XP Laptop. Any ideas or tips?? Thanks.

I upgraded from windows 2000 server to 2003 server. The new security policies etc seem so complex, I dont know where to start! I cannot see the server's shared directories across my wireless network now and I dont know what I need to change to make them accessible - any ideas?

I tried going back to the wired setup reinstalling the network even used the restore to earlier point feature in XP but still the host computer cant connect through my computer, it gets a message that the phone line is busy. We already went through all the checking and unchecking. what are we missing ?

How do I get the LINKSYS Wireless Router installation disk aka SetupWizard to run on a Macbook?
Everytime I incert the disk in the computer, it just spins around and it won't load up and the when I go to File and Open I get a Quicktime icon and it says error opening movie. Is LINKSYS not compatible with Macintosh? It's a Wireless-N Broadband Router 4X Rangemark and 12X Speedmark.

i have a dlink wireless adaptor and router i had it installed on my old pc it worked fine now on my new pc i dosent the only diffence between the 2 pc's is that one had some thing called internet connection in the network conections folder mums has this also but i dont know how to set up the connection if any one can tell me how to set it up on my pc i would be very gratefull ty

Currently, Im running DSL, and I know how to set up the network, I just want to know if anyone is running a similiar rig, and what hardware you used, as far as the internet PC card and the wireless router. Im not very familiar with laptops, and Im trying to figure out if the Dell needs a particuliar hardware set up. Ive called Dell and Ive searched around the net, and I cant find anything. A friend tells me that using a fax modem in your computer and an ADSL internet connection, you can create a second phone line. He tells me that this is not VOiP, and involves tricking the modem into using the adsl connection rather than the phone line, and plugging a standard phone into the fax modem allows you to make and recieve calls on this virtual line. Is this true, and how can I do it? I cannot seem to find an an answer to this question from searching the web, all I get is VOiP related results, which my friend assures me this is not.

My BF is way up north and becuase of the distance from him to the nearest access point there is very little signal. His labtop isn't the greatest to begin with but its good enough, lol. I have everything set up, right now i have a cord running from my laptop to the router because thats what the setup instructions told me to do. I'm using EasyLink Connect to set it up. Only everytime I run it, it comes up with "NO WIRELESS CONNECTION. Easylink could not setup a wireless connection to the router." Does anyone know how i can fix this? and can you tell me in idiot terms, because i'm not all that literate when it comes to computers. thanks

I've got a router, and then a wireles router--laptop and two desktops all on cable modem.

Sunday morning I was on main desktop. later that day, I had no service. I called the ISP and they walked me through many steps. We: reset modum, and routers, tried to reconfigure but desktop wouldn't let us.

Now, I have service to all pc's excetp for my main desktop. The cable co. could not help me get it back on. First message that pops up said "little to no connection". Now its saying that a network cable is unplugged. I checked and everything seems to be plugged in? Could an exposed wire cause this? What could it be?
