For internet applications, the ipconfig command won't work. It will show your internal address, but if you're behind a router/firewall, etc. it won't show your "internet" IP. The easiest and quickest way is to go to http://whatismyip.com. It will put your internet IP in big blue letters right on the screen.

On XP home :

Go to the start menu, select run.

Type cmd and then hit Enter

On the black screen that appears, type ipconfig and hit enter.

Your ip address will be shown.
