If you have a father who knows a lot about PCS he doesn't need your IP address. He could have a parental control on the PC, remote access, web page access logging, MSN chat logs.... he could have programs installed that allows him to watch exactly what you are doing on your computer too.

If he is in a different building, he still might have access to your PC.

Short answer: No.

There are methods of spoofing an IP address on the internet, but the odds of that happening to a very specific user is very slim. With that said, if someone spoofed your IP address, most likely you would be disconnected from the internet and when you reconnected, you'd probably receive a different IP address from your IP address.

Besides, there other methods for people to monitor internet traffic, without needing to take your IP address. There are proxy servers on the internet that provide a level of anominity. Also, if you are concerned about buying stuff online, use only trusted sources and verify that the pages that you are ordering from use SSL. This can be verified by the little Lock in the lower right hand corner of your brower window. If it is locked, then the page is secure. If it is open, then it is not secure, thus anybody can see your information.

The short answer is yes. If I had your IP address and you weren't properly protected by a firewall (or if I could get you to open an e-mail), I could install a keylogger onto your system. Not being a virus or spyware, normal scans will never detect a keylogging program. The best ones are almost invisible. You have to know exactly what you're looking for to find them. With that installed, then yes, absolutely yes, I could spy on everything you're doing. Internet, instant messages, every program you open, every e-mail you send/recieve... literally every letter you type on the keyboard.

Generally, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides you randomly with an IP address when you sign on. It is very difficult for someone to target you directly. And they are getting much better at protecting you from viruses and Trojans,

What may happen, is you can get a Trojan (software that runs with out your knowledge), that can monitor your keystrokes and then report them back to to the creator of the trojan. With that information they can play back your activities, or capture personal information eg. credit card number , passwords, etc

Trojans can install themselve's when you visit sites offering free programs. Adult content sites are notorious for this activity.

Check the web for some of the free scanners that are available that you can run to see if have any viruses running

e.g. http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp

Use a reputable site, nothing worse then dwonloading free anti-virus software, only to find out that is the one infecting you ;^)

yes and no

No to original people
Yes to hacker who can put some spyware, virus in your pc and then get the information from the pc.

But to avoid, download this freeware that would prevent from attacker or hijacker

http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

When you have this installed, you will find out lots of companies trying to peek at your ip!!

p.s

firewall helps, but not 100%, let's you go to a website yourself, that firewall will bypass it because you are accessing to it. and that website may install some spyware in you without you knowing it.

Scanning virus and spyware helps, but you have to constantly do that or you will get attacked anyhow. Do it once a week and delete your temp files and cookies all the time

Not with JUST your IP. Now if they have your IP and a trojan planted on your computer they can pretty much do whatever.

Run your virus scan if you suspect you may have a trojan. If you don't have virus scan go to http://www.download.com and search for AVG free download it and run it.
