i just bought a refurbished Netgear WGT624v3 Wireless Router that came with no installation software. From my understanding, no software is needed but I cannot connect or log on to my router. I have tried doing this through an open Internet Browser window and typing in the IP address 192.168.1.1 and all I get is an error page saying "Cannot find Server." I have also tried pinging it and I get no response. I have done both of these while plugged in to my laptop and while unplugged(wireless). Could it be possible that this refurbished router is bad? or am I doing something wrong? I also purchased a Netgear Network Adapter for faster speeds and it loaded up and is working fine but doesn't see any available networks in range. HELP!! Should I return it for another?? Any ideas??

Wireless is turned off by default. Do this, connect a computer (wired) into one of the LAN ports, open up your browser and type the path "www.routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm". Default user is admin, password is password. You should now be able to turn on wireless, and mess with all settings. Change the user name and password! Change the WLAN name from NETGEAR and setup some kind of encryption! If it doesn't work, try resetting the router by holding the tiny reset button on the back of the router for like 10 seconds with the power on. Unplugging it and plugging it back in helps sometimes too.

Hi there!
Where did you buy the netgear Router, Some companies install it personally for you. Or you could try and call netgear (Number most probably on Box the Router came in).
Hope this helps!

I'm actually having the same exact problem as you with a friends router. If you'd like I can forward you what they had given me as their response. Just leave me an email address at Gambit_13000@yahoo.com.
