What is the difference between internet and intranets?

Why would my computer be flashing warnings about this on my home computer?

The Internet is about sharing information "externally" between everyone else on the net

An Intranet however is about sharing information "internally" between networked computers

Theres 1001 reasons why this warning could be flashing. What would help is if you gave us is the actual message you're receiving but in general im assuming its a messge to do with network hardware or software

Internet is the huge network to which most computers over the whole word, are connected to. To connect to the internet, u need a modem.

Intranet is a small, local network to which only selected computers are connected to. For example, if u have 2 computers in ur home and the 2 computers are connected to each other thru the ethernet card or thru wireless, this is an intranet.

I have never seen this warning but there should be nothing to worry about. Just imagine a business with its own network going out to the open internet. The network within the company with all the internal network drives, other workstations and the company servers is all part of the company's intranet and when going out to external addresses such as www.yahoo.com would be going to the internet.

intranet is a connection between a few computers..much like a big lan connection..like in a huge factory..
internet can be relatively said to be a really really big intranet, considering that we all are part of the same human population inhabiting the earth
