Basically, I have a 1995 BMW 318i and recently the engine cannot idle whatsoever. When I come to a stop, the engine idles at around 1,000 RPMs (where it should be) but that is only for a mere second or so before the RPMs die completely and so does the engine. So I'm forced to maintain those RPMs by myself (i.e. pressing the gas pedal) and then acceleration is a problem up until the engine passes 1,500 RPMs. From there on, the engine doesn't die but if the RPMs fall to 1,000 again then in a few seconds the engine dies. Also, when the RPMs are low and the engine is right about to die the car's exhaust gets funny (the exhaust tip vibrates abnormally and it sounds like its clogged or something). At any rate, I replaced the muffler in an effort to solve the problem since it had a hole. It did fix anything. Furthermore, my mechanic has told me that car's computer is malfunctioning and you need to replace it or just the sensors. Anyways, does anybody have any idea what's causing this? Thanks!
