I had a coolant flush done, new hoses put on, and new dex cool antifreeze put in. Now it's black.
Is it possible the mechanic did not do a proper flush, or is there oil leaking in from somewhere? The car is a 96 Olds Ciera.

Oil is leaking into the cooling system. Most likely causes are a blown head gasket or bad lower intake manifold gasket. Common problem with GM V6's from this period.

DEX-COOL is orange? IS the black oily? Try flushing again take it back and see what the mechanic thinks? 12 year old cars can have oil in coolant issues. How about what the oil in the crankcase looks like?

Antifreeze does not turn black, however motor oil Will float on top and make it appear black. You have a problem with your engine, either a cracked block or blown head gasket.
