Yea, and if it is a newer car it may have a "black box" which records everything that it can during an accident. How fast the car was going, brake pressure, etc....

Yes and no. Usually the locking mechanism ceases in place and the firefighters may have to cut the belts to release the passenger. No, if it just a minor fender bender.

in fact a dealership can access the computer to see if the seat belt was fastened,and a crime lab can dismantle the receiver to see if there are signs of stress from the crash.

i just had to go through this with my wife.
ford taddles as far back as 1987.

Depends on the model year. Many newer viehicles store that information in the computer along with speed, & braking info.
