Either needs to be recharged or is shot meaning the clutch does not engage

when did it work last??? possibly just low on refrigerant...

open the hood with engine running and a/c switch turned on and look at the compressor. there is a clutch mechanism on the front where the belt goes. if that is engaging, more than likely just needs freon. can buy a recharge kit at stores like Walmart that has a gauge attached to a hose and a can of refrigerant (but will likely need a couple to fully charge system). pretty easy to follow instructions... put in one can and see if it gets any cooler and if the gauge (on the hose in the kit) shows close to where it supposed to be...

Look at the following

1. is my system charged? if no have system charged and checked for leaks

2. System is charged but Compressor does not come on
a. is the there 12volts going to the clutch coil?
Find the cause of no power to coil.
B is the compressor locked up ?
Replace the Compressor, Orifice tube, and accumulator
flush out the Lanes evaporator and Condenser,Refill
with correct type and correct amounts of oil and freon.

It could be what has been mentioned by the other answerer's, or it may have just been disconnected. Check all your wiring and fuses before taking it in for a recharge unless you trust the garage you use. They may find something easy and charge you for a recharge anyway.

In most cases, there is a leak in the system. It could be recharged, but it is best to find the leak and get it fixed first. Then when you recharge it, it may stay charged for a while. good luck.

First make sure the compressor is on.... if it is and the air is still hot then you have a bad leak somewheres in your system, you will need to put in this leak detector then this will tell you where the leak is and what you have to replace.
