I had a wreck the other day where I ended up fishtailing for awhile, spinning in a few circles and hitting a barrier. Thank God no one was injured. I hit on the back passenger side right by the rear wheel. The bumper ended up getting knocked off, and I had to have it towed because the steering kept pulling when I tried to drive it. The tower said the rear steering stabilizer was broken. It was still drivable, just not something I'd want to be doing. No other damage was visible other than a dent. I know nothing of cars and was curious as to what this means/how much it should cost. It is a 99 Nissan Altima.

I recently bought a 1985 chevy silverado from a guy who said it was all original. This truck is very very nice. To me it does look all original. He said he has never had any problems with it. After I purchased it I was about 1 hour away from his state and the truck started backfiring. Going up a hill it sounds like its backfiring under the hood. Going down hill it backfires fron the tail pipe. I made it home(7 hour drive) with out any other problems. I called him and asked him about it and he said it never did that to him. He said I probably but in "cheap gas". Well today I took it out for a cruise, and it was running fine till I hit about 47mph and it backfired under the hood so hard it sounded like the engine got ripped out. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. Will I ruin the truck if I keep driving it like this?
Sorry for the long post I just wanted to give details.
Thanks in advance.

Okay, i've been seeing alot of test lately that seem to fly in the face of what I was taught years ago. Metalic pads are good and messy, semi metalic are better and can be given additives to help with heat, noise, dusting, etc., and the man made pads are capable of just about whatever we want them to do since they are designer made materials. Then there are ceramic pads which are very good at dissipating heat and run very clean but don't have the same grab as say a good semi or man made. Now I'm seeing test results from the semi's that out perform everything else. So this will probably get alot of different responses but let's hear it ... which is better and why?

I work in the oil field and on our transfer pumps, which are pumps that carry the underground water to a aboveground holding tank, sometimes are exposed to the salt water which, when the water evaps, it leaves a flaky coating of salt over whatever it contacts.....and since there is electrical componets on the pumps, wondered what would be good and not so good...such as vinegar? Good or Bad or useless...Wondered what some of you boaters use to clean salt water engines with?

This is my wifes company car and I'm thinking of buying it for my daughter. The Ford dealership just replaced the waterpump and thermostat. Because my wife noticed the car gets hot on the freeway. I put a new radiator in it based on the dealer saying it had a blockage and her company wouldn't pay for that since we are buying it cheap.... It still seems to get hot on the freeway. Also the electric fans are running at idle like its hot? This car is in perfect shape otherwise. I'm thinking it's a cylinder head sensor or one blog I saw said it is the plastic thermostat housing. Any ford guys with answers would be great... Thx

It seems as though there is no oil pump on the engine and i was wondering if around this year did they start making an internal oil pump. i think i have a newer engine so if they started to make them in a different year if anyone knows could they help me out on this?

Hi everyone, not sure if any of you saw my other post, but anyway my car is a mercedes 350SDL 1991 (about 150k miles).
I have two main issues that I just discovered recently.
1) my fuel gauge reads incorrectly- goes to Empty even though it shouldve been around 1/2 tank. It sometimes jumps back to the actual value, but will eventually go back to Empty. Sometimtes it will even move sporatically for a second or so .
2) this happened twice ot me the other day - once when parking and the other when pulling out in the middle of a Kturn - my car completely shut down. It looked like all my dashboards icons flashed for a split second and then the car went off. I turned it back on right after (both times) and drove it fine.

Could these problems be related? Does a tune-up check possible electrical issues such a these? Should i have it done at a chain tune-up place or at my mechanic. (both these issues started happening the same day- althought have not drivenmuch)

thanks for the help!

Nikola Tesla

Can you imagine what our world would be like without Nikola Tesla's discoveries? Few people recognize his name today, and even among those who do, they might think of him as a crackpot inventor rather than a brilliant inventor, scientist and engineer. Without his discoveries our world would be enveloped in darkness and silence. We would have no radio or television. The motor boats, trams, trolley buses, and the trains would stop...
Making all of this happen and plenty more, Nikola Tesla dramatically changed our world. Yet, he received very little credit for his efforts. This is why in my perspective Nikola Tesla is the greatest American.
Throughout his entire life, Tesla loved his work so great, he was unable to love anything else, and therefore put himself into isolation. He explained, "I have planned to devote my whole life to my work and for that reason I am denied the love and companionship of a good woman." He stated that due to the fact that he was an inventor, h

The vehicle is a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder. The speedometer will sit at 0 when you start driving, then move up to somewhere between 0-5mph or 0-10mph. Then it will jump to 30mph and if the vehicle is driven for an extended time - sometimes the speedometer will give an accurate reading. Or at least one that seems accurate. What could be causing this dancing speedometer?

Thanks!

So there is no obvious lock/chock/impediment on the tires, and the truck can drive backward easily...but when driving forward it only lurches forward slightly, even when the gas is pressed down considerably. When driving backwards then forward, the truck will go forward a few inches sometimes, but it will stop; sometimes when driving backwards the truck won't go forward again.
