Nikola Tesla
Can you imagine what our world would be like without Nikola Tesla's discoveries? Few people recognize his name today, and even among those who do, they might think of him as a crackpot inventor rather than a brilliant inventor, scientist and engineer. Without his discoveries our world would be enveloped in darkness and silence. We would have no radio or television. The motor boats, trams, trolley buses, and the trains would stop...
Making all of this happen and plenty more, Nikola Tesla dramatically changed our world. Yet, he received very little credit for his efforts. This is why in my perspective Nikola Tesla is the greatest American.
Throughout his entire life, Tesla loved his work so great, he was unable to love anything else, and therefore put himself into isolation. He explained, "I have planned to devote my whole life to my work and for that reason I am denied the love and companionship of a good woman." He stated that due to the fact that he was an inventor, h

his whole passion went into his work and only his work. If he fell in love with a woman, it would lessen his passion he had for his work. As Tesla said, "I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... Such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." In my belief, no other American can match Tesla's passion for his work.
One of Tesla's greatest ambitions, was his determination to make electrical power equally available to everyone, especially those in poverty. Before Tesla, all motors ran on direct current only, and that gave Thomas Edison and his "D.C. only" system the edge. Then Tesla created the alternating current motor, giving A.C. the final edge it needed. A.C. was superior because of the easy transformation of voltages. A.C. could be generated remotely at very high voltages, then "stepped down" to accommodate local distribution and home use

. In comparison, Edison's system depended on the generators being close to the users, and depended on very large conductors between the source and destination to avoid large power losses. In the end, Nikola Tesla's perseverance and intelligence led him to devise one of the most important invention in all of American history. Without his discovery our world would be lost.
Our world changed because of Nikola Tesla, so the next time you hear his name think of him as ___________________ . In my belief, if Tesla had an idea, he would just go for it. He never questioned himself if that was possible or not. I think his place in the development of electrical technology was significant and impacted our world greatly. Nikola Tesla was just simply a creative genius. He was unique enough that I think from him there is a tremendous way to be learned just by studying the way in which he created. Despite the fact that Nikola Tesla was a bit of a nutter, it was his discoveries that allowed the 20th c
