How long should I wait until I drive over 50mph in my new 07 Silverado? Or how many miles should I put on it first?

It's OK to drive it over 50. Just don't go drag racing or boat towing for a while. My new Suburban took about 1500 miles till the mileage came up to par, which is a good sign the breakin is well along.

With the amount of money that you are spending for this vehicle and the importance of this question, you should consult your owner's manual. If you do not have an owner's manual you should contact the service department of a dealer. I do not think there is a break in period for the new vehicles. You should not rely on me or anyone else on Y/A for this answer.

being a ford and ASE certified mechanic I have always told my customers to drive it like they are normally going to drive it. if you only drive 55-60 mph thats how you break it in. if you drive 90-100 mph thats how you break it in. the important part is to change your oil at the correct intervals .Most new vehicles have already been ran and driven before you get it. all dealerships do a new vehicle check and drive to make sure all systems are working and nothings leaking before it hits the lot for sale. I personally have always treated my new cars like race cars and drove them like i stole them. if they're going to have a problem it will show up then and not 5000 miles later when you do the first oil change and service. haven't had any problems either.

Most car companies tell you to take it easy for the first 5000 miles or until the first oil change. Unless its a diesel, they are broken in already but generally their fuel milage improves over the course of time...

Sit down and read your owners manual from front to back. There is everything you would ever want to know about your vehicle in there, and allot to learn about cars in general ... happy reading
