So there is no obvious lock/chock/impediment on the tires, and the truck can drive backward easily...but when driving forward it only lurches forward slightly, even when the gas is pressed down considerably. When driving backwards then forward, the truck will go forward a few inches sometimes, but it will stop; sometimes when driving backwards the truck won't go forward again.

Almost definately transmission needs to be rebuilt. In many automatic transmissions, the clutches that reverse uses engage with unregulated pressure. That means that they recieve the full pressure from the pump in reverse, but in forward gears it is regulated, meaning less pressure. When the clutches wear out, the regulated pressure will not be enough to prevent them from slipping.

It is also possible that the filter in the tranny is plugged, the pump might be worn out, or maybe it's just low on fluid. All of these things can cause slipping, and in many transmissions reverse will be the last thing to stop working.

First check the transmission fluid to see if it is low, second change it and the filter and see if that fixes it, if not you need a transmission rebuild. The reason it will work in reverse is because that is the closest gear to park and it can slip into that gear easier.

Sounds like a transmission problem to me. Could be the gears or maybe the transmission needs rebuilt or replaced.

Most likely the transmission, maybe a stuck brake shoe. Good luck

Are you sure you don't have the emergency brake on? Seriously, this happened to a friend of mine....called for help only to find it was the emergency brake. Gave us all a good laugh.
