I am replacing my engine on my 1988 mr2 and have noticed that there is a few differences in the engine. It seems as though there is no oil pump on the engine and i was wondering if around this year did they start making an internal oil pump. i think i have a newer engine so if they started to make them in a different year if anyone knows could they help me out on this?

I haven't heard of an engine without an internal oil pump - something's gotta get the oil moving. It's usually located inside the oil pan, although some rebuilt engines don't come with it - you're expected to put your old one on or buy a new one before installing the new engine. External pumps are comparatively rare. Are you sure it's an oil pump you're thinking of?
