Its a 94 Sunbird with a unique thermostat (you can open the radiator cap and pull the t-stat out with your hand). The t-stat has opened normally but then this afternoon it didn't open (upper rad hose was cool, but the engine was running hot). I pulled it out, and everything was cool (infact, overly cool without the t-stat). So I drove it home, and tested the t-stat in the boiling water. It opened properly this time.

I've since replaced the t-stat, and it works fine (for now). But my question is what would cause it to fail the once?

Between 13-20 mph I have an irritating noise/vibration it is like whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo and increases with speed up to 20 mph. The hub assembly is over $200.00 so I want to be sure it is the problem.

I bought a 94 cougar from an auction. It has 100k miles on it. When in park, the engines revs up somewhat normally. When in gear, engine barely revs to 1500rpms with the pedal all the way down. Engine also vibrates and shakes at idle. From under the car it looks like it got stuck on a high curb. Radiator and oil filter are clearly bent up. The lines from the radiator also seem bent up. Is it possible that i could just have some cloged lines, or is the car shot?

My friend has had his car hot-wired and stolen, and now the ignition won't start. She will get it checked out and repaired, but I was curious to know how it's done--is it like what we see on TV and movies: to randome wires put together to create start the engine? How does it shut off? Furthermore, not only does the engine not start, but the radio, automatic locks, and choke won't operate. (Of course, answers may vary based on type of vehicle, but all responses are welcome.)

The gasket material lining the space between my 2000 Saturn LS's hood front and the frame came off. I'm a car maintenence dummy but I don't want to spend a bunch of money on this car I'm replacing soon. If it's a vital part or it's loss will damage the car, I'll do what I must. Please advise. Thanks!

I have a 1993 Nissan Quest and the fuel door no longer latches. I have tried repeatedly pushing the release but it won't loosen. It seems the latch on the car side of the mechanism is the problem, the male part that comes out to latch the door won't come out. I have tried pushing in back in to loosen it and tired gently to pry it loose but no luck. Any suggestions?

I am having a problem installing my distributor. I am rebuilding a 79 351 windsor using stock parts except for the distributor. It is a Mallory distributor. When I try to install the distributor it gets caught up and won't seat all the way on the engine block. I have it set on TDC while trying the install. Does anyone know how big the distributor gear is supposed to be? The distributor gear and cam gear don't seem to mesh together. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased a 1989 Ford Escort to get back and forth to work with. This vehicle has been sitting for some time and I have replaced many things on it. I replaced the starter, the battery, the ignition switch, and a few other small things. When I start the vehicle, it runs smoothly, as it does when I push in the clutch, until the gear selector passes into the gate for first gear, then the RPMs drop dramatically to around 100 and idle become very erratic. The vehicle eventually dies if I do not press on the gas to keep it at a higher idle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I am stumped.

Engine overheating, 99 Jeep Cherokee classic 4.0 in-line 6

i drove my car about a mile and i could smell radiator fluid so i looked at my temp gadge which was normal so i stopped, opended the hood and noticed it was pretty hot for driving such a short distance. there was also a trail of coolant drips behind the car, which makes me think the water pump is bad, i checked the oil it was at a safe level but it was dark and kinda thick. so anyway i was just a block from home so i took it home i heard so valve clicking noises pretty sure it wasn`t lifters.

in september i replaced the radiator, waterpump, thermostat, hoeses and tempiture sending unit.
i just got the car in august im thinking the oil wasn`t changed very often

i`m wondering if the sluggish oil is causing the engine to over heat and/or the thermostat is bad causing the waterpump to go out.

any ideas where i should start,
thanks

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan. I have had the resistors for the low and intermediate blower motor changed 3 times. They keep burning out in a couple of weeks. My mechanic has checked the current draw from the blower fan, and says it is not drawing too much? It works fine on high.
