My last two sets of tire have failed the same way. After 5 years and with plenty of thread left, one tire will fail and I have to replace the set. The failure is noticeable by a belt slipping and the tire walking to where my car wobbles at low speed and the tire thumps at higher speed. I rotate my tires every 7k miles and keep them balanced with the proper air pressure. Still, it never fails that one tire fails because of a bad belt. I changed brands with no luck. I drive about 8K miles per year and never get to wear out a set. Is this a problem with all radial tires? Do they go bad after 5 years regardless of care? I live in northern Florida and we get three seasons so I don't sign up for that 'excessive heat' story. What do you say?

I drive a 1997 Ford Explorer with 124,000 miles. It was running fine until yesterday on my way home it started making a noise like a dentist drill every time I let off the gas. When you press the gas, even a little, the noise stops. It makes the noise when coming to a stop, since I have to let off the gas, but stops making the noise after I slow down to about 10mph or less. It doesn't make the noise when I drive slow, thru a neighborhood or something, at less than 30mph. It also makes the noise really bad when I put it in reverse. Anyone have a clue what could be wrong?

When the original problem began, it started with excess fuel consumption. Then all of a sudden the car started overheating. About 2 weeks ago it started having a real problem with hesitation, but is still running. Yesterday, I decided to check the spark plugs for gap and discovered that even though they were all in place tightly, two of them had oil on the outer bolt and ceramic. Does this mean what I think it means?

i drove my car about a mile and i could smell radiator fluid so i looked at my temp gadge which was normal so i stopped, opended the hood and noticed it was pretty hot for driving such a short distance. there was also a trail of coolant drips behind the car, which makes me think the water pump is bad, i checked the oil it was at a safe level but it was dark and kinda thick. so anyway i was just a block from home so i took it home i heard so valve clicking noises pretty sure it wasn`t lifters.

in september i replaced the radiator, waterpump, thermostat, hoeses and tempiture sending unit.
i just got the car in august im thinking the oil wasn`t changed very often

i`m wondering if the sluggish oil is causing the engine to over heat and/or the thermostat is bad causing the waterpump to go out.

any ideas where i should start,
thanks

My cars temp has never raised above the 210 until recently, now when i'm in traffic the needle goes past it and almost redlines... I have also noticed that recently my heater will work fine on the freeway but when I get off the freeway and get into commute traffic the heating air turns cold. My questions are; 1) What could be causing these problems, 2) Are they related, 3) What can I do to fix them? Thanks

Will a new transmission help gas mileage? the old one overheated and the bands needed adjusting...The new one is the same kind of transmission, but rebuilt. It seems like it would get better mpg now. Before i was getting 19-21. Its a 1989 Thunderbird, and should get 19 in town and 27 on the interstate.

I think I need to replace the seal on my trunk but can't find the part online at any of the auto parts sites... is there some oddball name that it goes by other than a trunk seal/gasket? Or should I just run some silicone caulking around the existing seal to see if that works first?

can anyone help me with intruction on putting a timing belt for a 88' Ponitac Grand Prix

I just recently had the intake gasket on an Escalade replaced; I went to get the fuel injectors cleaned and heard a knock. I had just had the oil changed two days ago. As my car was running the fuel injector cleaner through...the knock seemed to get worse and before I knew it...the engine had stopped. Okay...so should (or can I) rebuild the motor that's in their with a rebuild kit? Or should I just find another motor?
Mind you, before the intake gasket installation, the car had sat up for about a year. The reason it sat up was because it ran hot and I drove it about 2-3 more miles to get to the house...hey, I have to be honest to get a correct diagnoses.

Where I live, regular is 87 octane, mid-grade is 89, and premium is 93. I know, 89 isn't exactly halfway between 87 and 93. But at the gas station, do they really have three separate tanks? Is mid-grade really a separate formulation? Or when you pump mid-grade, is it just mixing regular and premium?

I was out "playing" in the snow the other day and got stuck, rocking it back and forth a few times (quite a few..lol) started leaking tranny fluid. It's too cold at the moment to get under it and see were it's coming from. Is it possible that i over-heated the tranny and it "puked" it out the over flow?

I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GP AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT JUST CAME ON. THIS CAR HAS 93,000 MILES ON IT BUT ALL OF THE MAINTENANCE HAS BE KEPT UP.ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME A NEW SET OF TIRES AND THIS SAME LIGHT CAME ON. A FRIEND OF MINE TOLD ME TO HOLD THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITH THE SWICTH OFF AND COUNT TO 3 THEN LET IT BACK UP AND COUNT TO 3. HE TOLD ME TO DO THIS 3 TIMES THEN START THE CAR. I DID JUST LIKE HE SAID AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. I TRIED THE SAME THING THIS TIME AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT FOR ABOUT 15 MILES AND IT CAME BACK ON. COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I CAN TRY TO DO TO MAKE THIS LIGHT GO OUT. THANKS LONNIE

The problem always occurs when I am slowing down or stopping. The electrical power of the car remains working when the problem occurs. I have never had any trouble restarting the car after it happens. Right before it happens, my RPM meter dwindles down to zero and my heater starts blowing less air. If I notice that it is going to happen, I can give it more gas and it will remain running. I drive the car every day, but it only happens a few days a week. When it does happen, it usually happens more than once in one trip. I have always had the car above 55mph at some point before it happens. I tried dry gas but it didn't seem to work. My check engine light did come on for two days, but went back off on its own, don't know if it was related to this problem. Any ideas of what might be wrong will be helpful.

Okay my car is a chevy impala 2000 with 50,000 miles I just got it a few months ago so I don't know any history other than that. I had the oil changed, new tires, breakes etc. I was on my way to work in stop and go traffic when my battery light came on and within seconds my car was dead. I could not even turn the wheel and there was no power at all. I put the car in park, took the key out, and tried to start my car again and it started. 5 minutes later the battery light came on and this happened again. I did the same thing and it started again and i went to work. On my way home I stopped at goodyear and asked for them to check my battery and told them what happened. They left for 10 minutes came back and said that will be 40 bucks for an electrical systems check and we wish we could sell you something but nothing is wrong with the battery. I go home and the next day i have to break really hard on the way to work. When i take my foot off the break it starts to go on its own.

Just bought my first bike a Honda CLR125, but i haven't got a hand book for it yet. I want to check the oil level but am unsure of the correct way to read it. Do You a) have to screw the dipstick in to the engine case & then undo it to get the level OR b) Unscrew the dip stick & sit it on the top of the thread. May seem a silly "Q" but one way it will be at the MAX mark & the other way it reads MIN mark. Hope i 'v explained it clearly.
