How should I go about repairing or replacing a seized motor in a 2000 Cadillad Escalade? Can the enging be saved or should it just be replaced all together.

You won't know until you ask.

As a rule, if it is really seized it is likely shot.

You can try and get the engine to turn, by applying force to the crankshaft pulley, then once you get it loose, crank it and start it but let it idle and don't rev it for a good while, just see what it does (maybe pray).

You've got nothing left to lose, but know that the last time I tried this with a lawnmower 15hp engine, it ran fine for about 5 minutes, then made a strange noise and stopped for good... When I inspected it closely, I saw the piston (literally) had cracked the block, and that spelled it out for me.

But it's worth a shot, doesn't take that long.

Beyond that...
Start shopping around for used / rebuilt engines.
And start changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles religiously.

If you are certain it is seized, what caused it?

There are two basic ways to go with replacing an engine...one is a "short block", which has the camshaft, timing chain and all the pistons installed..But no heads. If the heads and oil pump are good, it is one option. You have to take most of the other parts from the old engine, and put them on the short block.

The other is "long block", which includes the heads and a few other pieces. Naturally, this adds several hundred to the price of JUST buying the replacement engine.

If you just take it to a "rebuilt engine" shop, they will use one or the other anyway, "unless" you agree to a "used engine" from a used parts supplier (aka junkyard). Be very careful of your choices.

Shops can charge anywhere from $1800 to $2800 for a reliable swap.

Replace it. Something like a Jasper remanufactured engine will be like new. They don't just replace worn out parts, but replace all the parts that can wear. Fixing the old one would cost about as much, and you'd still have a lot of old, questionable parts in it.

certain, Civics and something else of the Honda's and Acura's are straight forward to be stolen, even though it relies upon on your community extremely. I stay in Brooklyn ny and drove an Acura RSX and has no problem with it. i have had friends contained in the realm with Civic SI's besides and no complications besides. the reason Civic's and RSX's are stolen is because people like to purchase low-priced civics (like the ninety 3's) and thieve different Honda motor vehicle aspects and set up it on their own automobiles. K20 engines are centred.

i own a shop ,and its possible to save it,but usually its cost efficient to try and do this ,by the time you buy whats needed for it,and pay out the labor on having this done you can buy a really good used engine for it ,or a good new short block for it,it would make more sense on that one to use new short block in it,and re-use your heads and stuff, also more efficient this way, either way its up to you but if was me id just go with a short block ,good luck,i hope this help,s.
