Valves are opening and closing, fuel air mixture passes through the portals to the valves from the intake manifold into the head, exhaust gases are expelled out of the valve openings to the exhaust manifold connected to the outside of the head. Oil and water flow around and down.

The push rods operate rocker arms to change camshaft lift and duration to valve travel. Some heads have their camshafts inside the valve cover. They operate the valves with no push rods. The cam operates valve lifters and that motion is connected to rocker arms which open and close the valves.

theres nothing going on inside my head,its too early,but a cars head,then the valves are opening and closing by valve timing.
