On the 3.1 engine, the thermostat is located on the driver's side of the engine under the intake hose. I will be honest with you, these are a pain in the butt to replace as it is mounted to the lower intake between the intake and the exhaust cross over pipe. If the reason for your replacing it is due to insufficient heat, rarely have I ever seen these go bad. What I would do is look at the engine behind the power steering pump and over the transmission and look for wetness. These engines are good for having lower intake gaskets leak and you will see coolant on top of the block when this happens. I would recommend taking it to a mechanic to have this replaced because otherwise you will wind up with the same problem. I recommend a fel-pro metal intake set to take care of the problem.

until now you replace the thermostat. You stated you filled it to the "chilly finished" line. while the engine is chilly, open the radiator and fill that as much as the precise, start up the vehicle and allow it run for a minimum of 10 minutes, topping off coolant as mandatory. while that's flowing quickly surpassed the hollow positioned the radiator cap on and stress it anyplace. the following day morning and day after at present, verify it on the radiator back and if that's is going down, discover the leak and fasten it. The restoration gadget would not paintings properly while there's a leak, and that i think you have a leak and don't choose a thermostat.

Your car was awfully young to need a new thermostat. I replaced it on my 00 Malibu today. Directly under the throttle body behind the exhaust cross over pipe. It was the most ridiculously difficult thermostat replacement ever.

Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine block.
