I have a 1993 Nissan Quest and the fuel door no longer latches. I have tried repeatedly pushing the release but it won't loosen. It seems the latch on the car side of the mechanism is the problem, the male part that comes out to latch the door won't come out. I have tried pushing in back in to loosen it and tired gently to pry it loose but no luck. Any suggestions?

Try a few small squirts of a lubricant such as wd-40 onto all the moving parts such as the hinges and the mechanism, if there is a spring then that too, just coat it all a bit to loosen it up, see what happens.

Not knowing earlier Nissans very well, it's tough to picture, but I'd suggest shooting it with WD40 and letting it settle for a bit. Sometimes these things rust and seize up. If that doesn't work, you could probably stop by a dealership (or local shop) and ask if they can take a look at it and make a suggestion, free of charge (since you could potentially be a customer).
