I bought a 94 cougar from an auction. It has 100k miles on it. When in park, the engines revs up somewhat normally. When in gear, engine barely revs to 1500rpms with the pedal all the way down. Engine also vibrates and shakes at idle. From under the car it looks like it got stuck on a high curb. Radiator and oil filter are clearly bent up. The lines from the radiator also seem bent up. Is it possible that i could just have some cloged lines, or is the car shot?

Automatic? Cooling lines from the tranny to the radiator are probably smashed. Since it revs up fine in Park, you can rule out the catalytic converter, misfires and throttle position sensors. Make sure the tranny oil pan is not damaged. If it is, you might need some serious repairs to your tranny.

It could be a clogged catalytic conveter. They are supposed to get clogged over time because they filter all the lead out of the exhaust. It gets progressively worse. At first, the car won't go 45 mph, then the car won't go 15 mph, then the car will hardly move at all. It moves very grudgingly.

Sounds like it's missing (mis-firing), but if the car is damaged that badly, I would scrap it unless you are going to repair it yourself, I'm sure the cost of labor wouldn't make it worth it on a vehicle like that!

Sounds like it could be an electronic throttle position sensor.
