I've been running regular Castrol 10/40 in it forever. The car has 164,000 miles on it and it runs perfectly fine. Just wanting suggestions and details about synthetics. Thanks for your input!

I recently asked another question about jumping a dead battery, and got a couple different answers on the order that the cables should be attached to the two cars. I looked it up briefly online and found even more variations.

In what order should the jumper cables be attached, and why?
Should the car with the live battery be running, and why?

In my 2001 Galant, the heat is not turning hot until the car is fully warmed up after driving around for a few minutes. In order for the heat to come on, I have to turn the fan off and on a few times. Then when the heat finally comes on, it cools down and heats up on it's own for a few minutes. I'm thinking it may be the thermostat getting stuck but I'm not sure.

Am living on borrowed time with my '98 at 150k. Any suggestions for good mechanic and/or dealer shop which will do a good job and not charge me arm, leg, and my firstborn child?

Also: have heard it's good idea to replace water pump at same time (as front end already taken apart anyway)...comments?

I've got a '99 Chevy Cavalier RS. Twice now I've heard a squealing sound from under my hood. It appears to be coming from the serpentine belt. Both times it has squealed it's been raining out. After it stops raining and things dry off there is no squeal. Should I assume it's now time to have the belt replaced? Also, does this sound like something simple enough for the local mechanic or do I need to spend the extra money and have a dealership do the work?

Are there any tricks for un-doing seized bolts?? the bolts on my front brake calipers have completly seized, they aren't rusty just won't move.
I am using socket and wrench .
The bolt does move but makes a noise that is kind of like stripping metal .
Thanks in advance

Please advise

I was on a long trip and all of a sudden I got the low fuel message. The range miles disappeared. I filled the gas tank but it didn't record it. Everything else works fine I think.

I started thinking a few weeks back that there was a light rumbling sound coming, so i thought, from the wheels - i assumed the wheel bearings were going. Now the noise is louder- its linked to the gearbox, clutch or transmission. If i am moving, take the car out of gear the noise goes. If i then press the clutch, select a gear (say 4th) and slowly release the clutch (say doing 40 mph) the rumbling noise returns. If i kep the car in gear then depress the clutch and release the noise dissapears and comes back.
