It sounds at first as if the transimssion fluid is low and old, but I'm assuming that as you're a car guy that's not the case. I'm also going to assume that the car is tuned up and has new fluids and filters. With that out of the way, I think the problem is somewhere in the vacuum hoses. These cars have a lot of rubber hoses under the hood, and every one is essential to the cars performance. The easiest way of checking is to find a really nice condition car and compare your hoses to it's. Check for cracks and leaks, as this could really turn out to be the problem.

Is you check engine or service engine light on? need you to check a few things for me..with the engine running, hold the brake and accelerate to about 2500 rpm and if the engine cuts out and pops and maybe even backfire, then you have a misfire on cylinders..something else, when you try to take off, does the car seem sluggish.. if so it might not be taking off in the corrrect gear.. change the gear selector to 1 and see if car performs better on take off, but remember to change the gears manually.. email me back at gotspeed7883@yahoo.com

It probably needs a transmission fluid and filter change. Also, try cleaning the IAC valve and TB with carb cleaner to help the poor idle. If the spark plug wires and plugs haven't been changed, now may be a good time as well.
