Hi,
Obviously depends on the severity of the problem, but I agree that even it is a major transmission problem, then three weeks is certainly taking the rise.
We used to drop an engine, replace the gearbox, and check the rest of the drive system, bung the engine back in, in about two - three days.
It sounds like they have more lucrative jobs on, and it has been put to one side.
I would suggest complaining on a daily basis.
The will speed up, to lose the car from the workshop.
Don;t br fobbed off with such statements as "Oh, we found another problem, or we are waiting for the parts"
That is usually nonesense. If the garage has a decent motor factor supplier, it should be there at worst the next day.
Also, take the spare keys with you when collecting the vehicle.
Some rogues refuse to give the main ones back until payed in full.
As for payment, demand a written account of hours spent on the repairs, and question any "add-ons" such as coffee breaks.
We do operate sensibly with a customer, but I know of some out there that are, shall we say, unsrcupled.
Put your foot down !
And best of luck.
Bob.

I think it's up to your friend to talk to the garage and see what is going on with the car, and an approximation of how much longer before they know. You see, I wasn't there, and I would guess you weren't either, so we don't know. Perhaps it was a conversation where the final outcome was "Well, since you can't drive it anyway, bring it in and we will get to it as soon as we can." with no set promises made. Or perhaps your friend said "No big hurry, when ever you can get to it." upon dropping it off.

Unless your friend has asked your opinion of the situation, I think it would be best to not be involved in it.

Transmission = Gearbox and if your friend is having a New Gearbox installed whether it is Manual or Automatic then as long as the parts are in the garage the entire job will take a Maximum of 6 hours

in all fairness the hot aspects geared up on your motor vehicle in could ought to be paid for in the previous the 21st June. Why ought to the storage proprietor be out of pocket for almost 4 weeks with out some style of reimbursement? additionally 21st June is almost a month away, so which you likely have only been paid in the journey that your paid month-to-month or 4 weekly. If all those wages have been accounted for then the motor vehicle ought to of been positioned off the line till you'll have the money for to repair it. i'm with the different answer which you mustn't positioned your motor vehicle in for artwork with out the money to pay for it. As for Barrys idiotic answer. The autos coverage is your accountability even while its getting artwork performed. So if it went up in flames your coverage could be footing the bill.

unless the car is in for some major cosmetic repairs (which in this case it isn't), 3 weeks is completely un-d@mn-acceptable.

To find the problem, it should take a MAX of two days, and that's only if they're really booked.

To fix the prob (after finding it) should take no longer than 2 weeks, and that's being VERY generous AND allowing for the time of shipping parts.

Sounds like the shop is blowing her off

Depends a lot on the age of the car, the availablilty of parts and the problem they have to fix, as well as what they told your friend to expect when it went in. 3 weeks is a bit, but depending on what they are doing and part availability, it might be as good as it can be done.

Even when they are waiting for parts then i would say that a week would be to long, never mind 3.Ask them for a courtesy car whilst they are fixing the transmission.

for a check up it would be too long if over one day.

for repair (not modifacation) being that the car is older and the parts may be hard to find and get it would be any time span.
But I feel that three weeks is a bit long.
