the car is a toyota and i heard that this problem has happened to other toyotas. the problem is that the car has a problem starting when i run errands...but if i use it and it is parked for a while it has no problem starting up. i heard that this is called intermittance starting or something like that. anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows the exact problem and how it can be fixed.

thanx for any help!!!!!

Hi all,

I have an X-reg Peugeot 106 Diesel.

At the moment, when I start the engine the heater fan is not coming on. After the engine has been running for sometime, it will come on intermittently.

I have followed the suggested in the 106 handbook to check the heater fan fuse, which seems ok, and also checked the radiator levels, which also seem ok.

Before I take it to a garage, does any one have any other checks I could perform to try to rectify the problem ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Even when stationary, but more pronounced when turning a corner at lowish speeds.

If I rev the engine, whilst stationary the grinding doesnt seem to get any louder, unless I start turning the steering wheel..then i can hear it "pitch up" in line with engine revs. If I dont touch the steering wheel whilst revving theres no grinding so Im pretty sure the engine itself is ok.

I'm pretty sure it's the Power Steering Pump, i've checked the PS fluid reservoir and it's full so I dont think theres a leak.

I'm yet to check the belt for tension, but it sounds more like the pumps dying..horrible grinding sound, not happy driving it at all.

Any ideas for cost (ball park) - based on UK garage prices, I still have an extended warranty so Im hopinh they will cover it, but you know what them fekkers are like, they never want to pay out.

fyi: It's a 2001 Ford Cougar 2.5

Thanks for any pointers/info

how can you check the condition of your car battery, basically i have an old diesel that doesnt like cold starts in the morning so im guessing its either the battery or the glowplugs

i have a multimeter and have checked the voltage between the terminals (from memory its about 13.5 volts) what other tests can you do??

thanks

I am looking to buy a used Jetta. I found a 92 in my price range, but the seller says it needs a new ignition coil and a brake bleed. How much can I expect these repairs to cost (parts and labor)?

how can i tell if the water pump is goin bad on my camry? the temp guage never gets hot,,it gos almost half way at the hottest..the fans are working,,but the top hose is getting really hot to the touch and pretty tight..i had to put a new radiator in it 8 months ago and now its leeking again at the top,,so i replaced it again and put a thermostat in. still runs about the same but the top hose gets pretty tight and hot?? could it be the pump going out and the pressure of the stystem is just putting enough through to keep it cool? and the heater gets so hot its unbearable? i have the coolest theromostat you can get for it? 170dg.....any way to check to see of the water pump is bad?

I bought this truck from a friend, and he kept the battery cables lifted, and when he used it, he would put them on, and it would work, so, the battery is good. I have attempted to put a DC Ammeter in line with the + terminal of the battery. But I get little to no discharge noted. But, I do smell that "warm electrical smell", near the right side front wheel well. It is not coming from the starting relay, doesn't seem to be coming from the alternator either. I am not sure what else would be down on that side of the engine, I understand it has a front fuel pump, but not sure where that is. I will entertain any resonable suggestions, no, a new or different truck is not resonable.

I have an Chevy engine that I recently bought from a guy who had inherited it. He mentioned that the motor might be bored out to 383, but he wasn't sure. I have the heads off, and I am going to pull the motor here soon. How can I tell if its bored out or not?
