Maintenance & Repairs - January 2007

Hi, wonderin if anyone has any idea about another prioblem with my 1996 V6 chevy corsica. After it sits for a few hours (while at work overnight etc) And I start it up the car seems to be fine..but if I sit and idle for about a minute and a half the engine starts sputtering down and about to stall then it revs up high and then back down real fast and stalls....this happens everytime

am trying to find out where to go and purchase a carb rebuild kit and have been unable to locate one. it is for the single carb 1.7 engine. if anyone can help i would greatly appricate it. thank you

instuctions to build one from scratch we can use a victor mouse trap(thats the brand) and we can't do anythig to the mouse trap except add something onto the little part that u pull back to snap. we need it to go a certin distance and i need help on how to constuct it and make it go it's not a race but i think it has to go 50 ft in a strait line so i need everyones help!!!! also we can use string to make the wheels go

Why is it that my car has frost on the pipes under the hood? It isnt that cold out and my car wasnt running or anything but its frost on my darn pipes I never have it on ac .... whats the deal... cuz somethin sounds wrong...

Should I syphon the gas tank?
What tricks will ensure the survivability of our cars for when we get back?
I live in New Mexico where it's not too cold if that helps.

I was recently given a 2000 ford focus wagon.I repaced the fluid
from the transmission.It was full of metal pieces and very dark.
almost black in color.The car has 130 K miles.I dont think
that the previos owner did any maintanance.I seems like it is
shifting better but it still skips occasionally.Do you think the transmission is gone or should I try changing the fluid+filter
again after a week of so.

I have had the plugs and wires changed to the best kind but it still does it. It will idle down below 1 on the rpm gauge and spit and spudder. it has even went dead a couple of times. It does not do this while driving just when at a stop or park.

I have a 98 ford escort. The starter drags, it's running rough, and puffs out of exhaust. But there is no smoke coming out the exhaust and it is not knocking. But has no power. Could you explain to me what could be wrong with my car??

Hi all, I have a 1984 mercury grandmarquis and i love speed. Can you reccomend any engine mods that will give it a few more horses under the hood? Also I wouldnt be able to take any weight out of it. If not can you reccomend any forums that can offer me advice about parts and what to do? I'm having a hard time finding things because its now about 22 years old.

1998, BMW 528i, E39, M52, 170K, overheats in stop and go traffic. Temp needle comes back to middle with I start driving again. Also, there is some squeaking, squealing noise coming from the engine (gets louder with AC on), which started around the same time as overheating problem. Repair shop (not BMW dealer) says that its the head gasket that needs replacing for $1800 or he can put Stop Leak to see if that fixes the problem. I have the car for about 2 years, last 30K, with no other problems at all.
So, what would your suggest ?? Do I just try Stop Leak or spend the $1800 for the head gasket or get a opinion from the BMW dealer ($175 for diagnosis)? Also, would the new head gasket fix the overheating problem or could something else be causing the overheating ?

I've got a 1996 Ford Windstar with a recon engine only a year old. The car idles perfectly, even drives perfectly, but white smoke comes from the engine beneath the hood (which smells funny, almost like burnt plastic, but not quite). When starting the car two days ago and idling it in place waiting for the engine to warm up, not quite watery green liquid started leaking onto the road from below the engine. But the engine still ran fine, no sputtering, nothing. The coolant tank was bone dry. The engine light never came on, the oil light never came on - the only light that ever came on - intermittently - was the battery light. Does this sound like a blown head gasket or a damaged intake? What do I look for should I get beneath the car? Is it possible that there is just a plug or something that's fallen out resulting in a coolant leak? Busted pipes? If anyone can help it will be great!

I thought that my head gasket was leaking but it turns out that its the gasket between the camshaft cover and the cylinder head is leaking, not the one between the cylinder head and the engine block.

when i put my truck into 4 wheel high, the light on the dash comes on and says 4 wheel high, but it wont come on in 4 wheel low. does this mean that it is not working or does the light not come on for 4 wheel low?

i have a 98 chevy truck and need help with diagnostics. i want to do live data scanning to see whats really going on with the engine because i have had to replace all o2 sensors and still get a reading telling me o2 bank2 sensor1/2 lean mixture,random misfire.when i pulled out the plugs i'v got carbon buildup sugesting to me a rich mixture,leadding me to believe that the vcm is giving a faulse reading and pushing the mixture up and leading to long term internal damage. any profesional help would be greatly appriciated!!!!!

took my van to the dealer and they told me that the smell was coming from the valve covers, which i dont understand cause there is no fuel that goes throught the valve covers.So i had them replaced at the dealer, and i still have the smell of gas inside the van.
I am thinking that it may be an exhaust leak or it could be a faulty fuel injector leaking?
anyone have any other suggestions?

The noise seems to be coming from the rear passenger side wheel. It stops if I apply some pressure to the breaks, but starts immediately if I let up. Any ideas?

Due to my sub making the review mirror vibrate... it has now decided to fall off.
Does anyone know a quick fix to stick it back on permanantly so it doesn't have to be held in place for like 24hours???
As everyone knows.. those mirrors are quite heavy.

A couple weeks ago but passanger side front door stopped opening from the outside. Either the lock is stuck in the lock position or the handle broken inside to door. I can open the door from the inside, and the power look switched on the inside, but the outer handle does nothing.
