Hi all, I have a 1984 mercury grandmarquis and i love speed. Can you reccomend any engine mods that will give it a few more horses under the hood? Also I wouldnt be able to take any weight out of it. If not can you reccomend any forums that can offer me advice about parts and what to do? I'm having a hard time finding things because its now about 22 years old.

well, there's alot you can do. it's a ford engine and they're TONS of "fast goodie parts" for that kind of engine. just go to any FORD website that sells aftermarket parts and you'll see what i'm talking about. "I" personally HATE ford or any domestic car but i would hate not to help some1 that want's to make their car go fast, 302 are good engine to build !!!!!! do some research and get the right stuff, cheaper is NOT always better. is you want, do a search under "ford motorsport" and you should be able to find some forums dedicated to "FORD" motorheads. sign up to one of them and start asking questions...............i hope this helps !!!!!!!!

There are all kinds of mods for the engine, whether it's a 302 or a 351. But this was not a car built for speed, handling or braking, even if it were a police version. Even then, it's 22 years old. Use it as transportation and save up the dough for something smaller, lighter and faster.

You really didn't give much information in there. What size of engine? if its the 5.0L/302 then pretty much any generic mod for this engine should work on that car, just make sure you have the specs on the engine when you go to the parts store asking.
edit: they ae big cars, but they are quite powerful and strong, another thing to do is change the gearing in your rear end. That can do wonders.

I don't have an answer for you...sorry...I just wanted to say I had a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis and I loved that ole boat. The windows didn't work and the A/C was out, but that thing was smooth. I bought a 1999 MM and it gets between 31 to 28 MPG. We checked it both times going to Utah and back (to OK) I got my husband hooked on them and we won't buy anything else. Oh, I just thought of something...have you thought of asking a junk dealer? Or just Google MM and see what pops up. Good luck.

How about an engine swap to a Motorsport 460/514 backed by an E4OD or a good C6? That will sure get that 4000 lb. boat moving, but prepared to pay at the pump!!!
