I don't use my car in winter. I am planning to save on gas. Should I take it for a ride regulary for maintenance purpose and to keep the battery up or just warming it twice a week while it is in the same place will do the job? I don't want to spend money but I don't want it to brake down for not being used. any body have advice with maintaining a parking car?

The truck is a 3.9 L V6 with 3 spd auto transmission. The engine has been rebuilt in the garage, fitted with new bearings, gaskets, lifters and piston rings. The distributor has been adjusted as best as possible. When the truck is started the engine runs rough and vibrations can be felt in the steering wheel. The engine rocks side to side rather noticably in the compartment. Is this normal for a Dodge pickup? Once the rpms increase, the truck runs smoother. While it runs, quite a bit of grey smoke comes out the exhaust pipe. It smells like burning oil, but where can such a problem be coming from? Finally, my engine makes a sort of ticking or clicking sound. Sort of like a kah tick kah tick that seems to fade at higher rpms. Is this unusual? Thanks

Ok, I have a '93 sunbird (sunchicken, lol). We just replaced the head and gasket. It is still overheating but strangely. The heat goes up to 3/4...but when we push the gas pedal it tends to drop 1/4 of the value that it is at. So at 3/4 when we push the gas pedal a couple times it goes below 1/2. Also, intermitantley, the heater will just blow cold air, then later it will blow warm air. any ideas?

I've had this truck as a spare for a few months.
The engine never heats up (much) and found a thermostat in glove box - so I suspect it has none in it...

I bought one along with some tune-up parts, but never got around to having mechanic replace it.

Due to problems with other my Dakota, I would like to get the thermostat installed. So - where does it go?
I figure somewhere between the engine and the radiator.

I'd like to know where exactly so I don't have to remove every hose and then have it wrong. Also, which way does it face?

I don't have any spare antifreeze, and it's 20 miles to nearest store. I need to get it inspected first for plates and don't want to get stopped every 10 minutes while in town.

Also, therefore don't need to be told that I should have someone else do it - as that's not an option.

So, I'll also have to catch the antifreeze and reuse it.
Where to place pan and how big do I need?

My back, right wheel felt like it was really about to come off, but when I checked it, it looked good. Could it be when I got my tires rotated, the place I went to didnt tighten the wheel as they were suppose to?

In an effort to check the oil, I pulled on the dipstick and the tube that it rests in fell off. So far, I have called on a couple of sources and am still waiting to hear from the dealership.

I would imagine that I would only have to replace the tube/dipstick, but one mechanic told me that replacing the cylinder block is the only recourse. That makes no sense to me; any insight would greatly appreciated!

My 1998 Dakota (V6-automatic) has refused to start for the last week & my trusty mechanic's snow-birding until Feb.

It's just doing a total die-job when I try to start it up.
All of the lights go out (inc. dashboard and dome) and it won't even pretend to turn over. I've recharged the year old battery a couple of times with no better results.

Today I tried it and happened to leave the ignition on and noticed that the dashboard and dome lights reset after 15-20 seconds and can hear fuel pump click on. I have one fuse that's replaced with a circuit breaker. I'll see what it's on and replace it with a fuse.

I could exchange the battery with the one in my 1989 Dakota which is only 4 months old - but I don't think that's it.
Nearest garage is now 20 miles away. I'd like to get it moving at least that far.
I have Dakota parts - whole spare truck's worth for same year type (not counting 1989 4-cylinder manual from above - and excluding radiators). Good electrical skills. No automotive 1's

Does anyone out there know where to find on the internet, step by step instructions on how to tune-up and install plugs, wires, distributor cap, points ect. on a 1984 Plymouth Voyager 2.6 litre engine?
I've looked everywhere and cannot find it. I don't have a manual and my van isnt starting, I think there is moisture somewhere thats stopping it from starting. When it does kick over for a few seconds, it sounds like it's running on 1 cylinder. Its been raining cats and dogs for days here.
I don't have anyone to help me and so I will have to figure this out on my own. I am not a mechanic and need easy to follow instructions.

Hi there. I am new to cars but I enjoy learning as much as I can about them and taking that knowledge and applying it to my car. I have a Mitisubishi 2.0 L non turbo lancer and I want to add more HP. I already purchased a cold air intake (not installed yet) and was thinking of getting a performance exhaust too. I asked a friend if there was anything else I could do to increase performance and he mentioned an ECU. I found one for my car but it said it must be professionally installed, and he also said I should probably install the ECU before I do anything else. First off, what kind of place does this kind of work? Are there any national chain car places that will do it for me? 2nd, should I really wait to install the air intake and exaust until after I get the ECU? Keeping in mind I am trying to get as much power out of my car as possible. Thank you.

My 97' jeep wrangler turns over when starting it, however, it needs to be jumped. When I start it, sometimes it makes a clicky sound. After being jumped it started. I pushed down on the acc. and it kept jerking. It died. What could this mean?
