What is happening is that your vehicle is shifting into a higher gear and then when you press on the gas again the vehicle is downshifting out of overdrive which is what the d with the circle is to help accelerate the car. There's nothing wrong with your car, its just your automatic transmission doing its job to get you going faster.

The D with a circle is the overdrive gear. That one usually kicks in about 40 on many cars. Sounds like that gear is gone. But some GM cars have a "lockup" converter that feels like another gear. Either case the tranny needs work. Check the tranny fluid level. The fluid should be pink, not dark and smell it to see if it smells burnt. My son drove his Dodge Avenger with no reverse gear for about a year. Its gonna cost a bundle to get a rebuild anyway so if you don't have the extra money just drive it in the non-overdrive till it croakes.

What kind of car are we talking about? Year and model? If you have an automatic transmission, did you check the ATF level? (Automatic Transmission Fluid). Insufficient ATF could cause the symptoms you are describing. If you believe the ATF level is OK, I would suspect an internal problem with the transmission. In the meantime you should stay away from the "CIRCLE D" AT selection where the slippage is obvious to you.

transmission problem . you should ask around about where a good honest trans man is . i took my car into that big transmission store amco and they told me it was going to be over a thousand to fix the thing and they would only warranty it for some short time. i had to insist i mean order the guy to give me back my keys so i could get out of there.
later i took the car to a little shop one man place that my brother new of from others. the man added a transmission fluid pressure builder to the car. it cost about 60 bucks it worked for 3 more years.
the point of this story is really ask around phone some auto shops little ones and ask who is local and good at trans repairs.
ask work mates anyone and don't go to amco. oh one more thing the man who told you it was ok to just drive around in regular d is right. but you should at least have the transmision looked at .

I believe you have the car in low gear, which means that it will not shift up. This is by design to provide the driver more power going up hills and the like. Driving it in this state for prolonged periods at high speeds is not good for your car.
When you put it in the "other" D, it will shift normally and reach its top gear. This is the gear you shoiuld normally be in. Keep it in the "other" D. Check your owner's manual and it will explain things better if I have not.

I believe the D with a circle is for over drive. If you having any problems with your transmission, I would not drive the car. You should have it towed to your repair shop.

The d in the circle is overdrive, so the problem must be with the overdrive. You can drive safely on the normal d (drive). Your gas mileage will suffer slightly.

Transmission problems. Getting it fixed early could mean the difference of a cheaper repair bill or getting it replaced which could be $1000+.
