Your car is worried that it will get lost in traffic. So in absence of bread crumbs it's leaving a trail of fuel to find the way home.

The other answers are right on, but let me add, get this fixed SOON because you are just asking to catch on fire, after which you'll have NO car rather than a leaky one.

When my mother-in-law's gas tank sprang a leak, the insurance company refused to pay for towing until she had the local fire dept certify that it was not going to be a hazard. They came by and stuck some kind of putty on it which held only JUST long enough to get the thing towed.

For your sake, I hope it's just the fuel line rather than the tanks as replacing the tank can be rather expensive ($600 + for domestic make)

The fuel line from the tank to the engine is under pressure. It may be leaking near the fuel filter connections. If you're not going to fix it yourself take it to a shop before the gas hits the exhaust or hot engine and blows up. Some repairs require fuel line disconnection so if you have had this type of repair recently maybe they didn't clamp the fuel lines tightly (happened to me after body shop repairs).

So. If your car only leaks gas when you are driving then that means you have a hole or a bad connection in your gas line. However, if it leaks all the time you have a hole in your tank. The best thing that you can do is to take it into s shop and let them look at it. They'll fix it and you won't explode. :P

if it only dose it when you are driving then there is a hole in the gas line. aka if it only leaks when it is running it is in the line but if it leaks all the time there might be a hole in your tank.
