I picked up an 84 rabbit convertible to toy around with and fix up. I am on a budget. Car needs work of course.

The cars paint is wearing down, and it really needs a new paint job. I have heard how bad MAACO is and am wondering if this is just a few people who have complained (after buying the "ambassador" cheapy package)

If I go anywhere else, I would be looking at 2000-3000. I really don't want to spend more than a 1000 on this part of the car(not looking for a show piece - just something that looks half decent)

I think the "supreme" or signature job is what I want. I wax my paint and keep it covered up half the year anyway.

I am really worried about is it peeling after a few years, but I wonder if these rumors come from the cheaper paint job or lack of maintenance by the purchasers.

Any have experience with MAACO?

I drove my brand new care for about 80 miles with its emergency brakeon and I'm curious what damage may have occurred?? I NEVER use an e-brake, so I didn't realize that the dealer had put it on when I got in it to drive it away.

When jumping a dead battery, the general rule is to attach the jumper cables in this order: (+) on the dead battery, (+) on the live battery, (-) on the live battery, and then the engine block on the dead car.

What is the reason for attaching to the enging block on the dead car in stead of the negative battery terminal, and would it also be possible to attach the jumper cable to the engine block on the live car?

It overheated again. I took it back. THey burped it again and said it must have had air in it. Also they said as long as its in the normal range dont worry. It sometimes begs the hot edge of normal. The top of the N in norm for those familir with old Ford temp gagues. What the hell?

My 80 yr old father in law's 1997 Dodge Caravan (94k) broke a valve spring and the valve subsequently fell into the cylinder. The piston is damaged but the walls are clean. I have replaced an oil pan in this before so I know its removable. What is involved in replacing just the one damaged piston? Is it doable without pulling the motor?

Its a beautiful van with a new AC system and brakes (last summer) - but the cost the shops are quoting him is to the point he's considering junking it. Thanks for any help.

2000 Alero V6 intermittenly decelerates while driving forcing me to pull to the side of the road. When I try to give it gas it will not accelerate but the car does not stall. If I shut the engine off and immediately start it again, sometimes it starts running fine again and sometimes it will not start at all. If I wait a little bit before I turn on the engine again it almost always runs as normal. This problem usually occurs when driving continuously for 30 minutes or more.

At first, I though it could be the battery and charging system. But all electric works fine and lights do not dim when problem is occuring.

No warning lights come up and has happened with multiple tanks of gas.

If it is a fuel system problem, could an old Fuel filter render the car powerless?, or does anyone think it is more likely the fuel pump or fuel regulator.

Any help is greatly appreiciated.

Mechanics tell me it depends if they are floatin brakes or not. Thats my question. Also for any Lanrover experts the dealer told me that if I use any pads other than Landrover pads that the brake light will go on and remain on, Is this true?

I have some kind of electrical issue in my '96 Honda Civic that I need to have repaired, but I would like a few educated guesses from others who know more about cars than me as to what might be the problem.
My car's engine runs fine. It starts relatively fine. Once I have it running, if I turn on the headlights, or parking lights (or any lights at all...dash, interior, etc). they go from regular strength, to dim, to regular strength, to dim...almost pulsing.
When I drive it around during the daytime, it seems to run fine, so what could be causing this electrical pulsing to be going on when I turn on the headlights.
If you have any ideas, please fill me in. I know NOTHING about cars and I live in NYC where mechanics are FAMOUS for being dishonest...so the more info I have in my head before I get there the better off my checkbook will be.
Someone please have pity on me and tell me what my problem might be?

I recently put a message on this board regarding my car. I was having a few problems with it and recently had a new hose fitted.
after that the car had all sorts of worse problems and bright green liquid was coming through the coolant.
i went to the garage today and he said that he previous garage who fitted the hose had fitted the wrong one which had caused more problems.

does anyone know how i would go about getting my money back from the other mechanic? I have a recipt. I jst want my money back for the botch job he did!
