my car is not leaking anything, it goes forward fine. just makes this strange grinding noise is all when i go backwards

Did you notice any fluid on the ground?

Sounds like your transmission has failed. Typically its expensive to get checked out and even more for the repair. If the car is in decent shape otherwise, call some garages. If not, scrap it.

You need to have your transmission fixed, the reverse band is out. In the mean time, try not to park anywhere where you would have to back out.

you either have transmission fluid leaking or transmission is bad

maybe the shifter linkage feel off
