First of all Dale should not be answering transmission questions when he has no idea what he is talking about. Not all transmissions have bands and there is no such thing as a third gear band. Second if it is a late model vehicle the transmission is computer controlled and could be an electrical or computer problem like a bad shift solenoid. A transmission service or flush will not fix this problem. Take it to a reputable independent repair shop and have it properly diagnosed. Stay away from franchised on shops.

See if it shifts manually form 2nd to 3rd. If so, then maybe it's that shift solenoid.

Oh yea, I prefer red wine, bitte.

Sounds like transmission problems. When was the last time you had your ATF serviced/changed/flushed? Take it to a trusted mechanic - only he will be able to tell you what is wrong in this case. People online can only guess at what this is.

Time for a transmission rebuild. But check the fluid first. You may be low. If its still slipping at full...need a rebuild.

Automatic transmissions have what they call "bands" in them.
Since your tranny is not whining/slipping in 1st or 2nd then the 3rd gear band is worn out,
