I'd be checking these things in this order.
1. Are you getting a spark ?
2. Is your air filter OK ?
3. Check your carb is clear
4. Is the fuel pump working?

Well for the car to start it needs two things, it needs fuel and it needs spark to ignite. Check the spark plugs first, pull them out and see if they are damaged or anything wrong with them. Or look out for loose or corroded wiring around the distributor.
If you don't have spark, then replace the plug and you should be good as new. If not, you need to check out that fuel filter/pump.

I would have your alternator checked. It sounds like that is your issue. If that fails it could be the battery connection but, most likely the alternator....

Could be the fuel pump. Also, if the battery takes a charge but then the car dies while driving, it could be the alternater. I would have it looked at.

What kind of car????? Spray starting fluid into the air breather and see if it runs. If it starts for a few seconds then you have a problem with your fuel system. If it does not start, you have a problem with your ignition system. Good luck.

Depending on the type of car you have, the choke may be stuck shut. This has happened to me and I had to pop the hood and manually unstick the choke

Check your bendix sprocket. It is right behind the central diffusionoid.
