What i mean is that when i reach a high rev moment when driving, before i can change to another gear, the engine's response seem to feel like it's juddering slightly. I know i need to change the oil soon so wondered if anybody had an idea for this problem?

As Pauline has asked, it is a Ford Escort, 1996 reg. I don't think it's the governer as the revs can go further, but it is doing this under a load such as going up a hill as well as at high revs...

Perhaps you wont like this answer because I a woman, but I would say it is not the fuel but the clutch. Mine went just last week and it was the clutch that went. I thought I was driving bad but no, it is perfect now I got it repaired. Mine is a petrol but I have driven lots of deisels in the past and to be quite honest prefer them, they go just as fast as petrol get more miles to the gallon and are fantastic in snow which we get lots around here. Rereading I would definitely say the clutch. What make and model are you driving.Plz dont dismiss my answer out of hand because I fem I can do lots of things with cars including stripping the engine.

Check injectors, but before anything else check your accelerator cable. I had similar problem with a mondeo and it was a spring that locks ta cable to the engine so it will not come loose. I changed the cable and it run like no other.
