I'm a college student and up until now I'd never had a credit card or anything like that, so I didn't have ANY credit. But I bought a car in January of this year. I've made one payment so far and the second one is coming up soon. How long does it take for me to earn credit if I never had any prior to this?

I've had a rough few years financially, and no bank I've talked with will give me a checking account, based on two accounts that were closed with money owing. One bank also pulled my credit report (I didn't authorize this), and it is horrible. I feel badly about all this, but am ready to fix it. I just got a large inheritance, and have the large cashiers check, in my possession (the bank that manages the family Trust was going to wire the money, but I have no account to wire it into). I also need to get a VISA-Debit card, the kind that normally comes with checking accounts, these days. So, Item number #1 - find a bank who will open an account for me, based on the info above., Item #2 - If they won't give me a checking account, set up a pre-paid VISA with a decent balance. I thought getting a bunch of money would "erase" my undesirable status with banks - but apparently not. I've gotten many suggestions from friends, family, even attorneys - and everyone seems mystified. Please Help!

This is the situation: I have a physical disability, and am on limited income (Social Security Disability). I had a friend (at least I thought he was my friend; he proved otherwise) who was supposedly helping me pay my bills, in reality, he wasn't, but I didn't know that until it was too late. As a result, I am now in debt with Niagara Mohawk.
I let this same "friend" (before I found out what he was capable of- when I still trusted him; I knew him for 15 years, and considered him to be my best friend) use a credit card that was in my name, for a business he was starting; we were going into the same business together, so I felt it was a financial investment. Anyways, to make a long story short, he maxed out the card, and left me with the debt. I've cut off all contact with him. Since I am on limited income, I am unable to pay off the debts or pay for legal advice. Any advice on how to deal with the debt problems (creditors) would be appreciated. Thank you.

Back in 2003-2004 I had a family plan though cingular wireless-pac bell. The other family members racked up a ton of text messaging and long distance calls which got me in this huge debt. Cingular closed the account in summer of 2004, because I couldnt afford to pay it. I started getting collection notices in Dec 2004,Feb 2005, June 2005. This isnt even on my credit report either. Now two years later in 2007 I started getting collection letters demanding 7K from some law office. The most recent letter from this law office states that this law firm will "advise his client to commence a lawsuit which may result in a judgement against you."
My question is can this lawfirm/collection agency submit a lawsuit against me? I understand the UCC SOL laws.
I also just recently looked at my credit report and I see this Collection agency/lawfirm under my account information as Date opened 11/2006 and is only being reported to one credit bureau (TransUnion).

I was on this site just now http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20040116b2.asp#nv
and I live in Nevada. It says the SOL on "open accounts including credit cards" is 4 years, and the SOL on written contracts is 6 years. Does the 4 year SOL include CLOSED credit cards or do they fall under written contracts at that point?
Thanks

I am deliquent on my credit cards. I have paid on time for all the years that I have had them. I can no longer pay them but don't have the money to file chapter 7. Have no assets either. All but one of my cards have just added last months bill to this month and put a little note at the bottom about not receiving last months payment. However one card (target visa) started calling me 5 days after my bill was late. I know it is them because I gave them my home phone number when I wrote them and the other cards I gave my cell phone number but none have called as of yet. They start calling me about 8 45 am and call about every hour until about 9 at night monday thru sunday. It is apparently an automatic dialing system because I have an answering machine and it cuts off on it without leaving a message. I don't answer the phone till a person begins to talk. Yesterday I got one message from them and today someone has hung up several times.

I let a credit card go without payment until a law firm called me for collections, threatening to take me to court.
They offered a settlement if I paid 70% of the amount I owed rather than making me pay the balance in full.

Does this affect my credit different?
Should I still pay the balance in full, rather than take the settlement? Or would I be wasting my money paying the balance in full? For example, is settling going to make applying for a home loan any different than if I paid in full at this point. I would have to have settled saving a few dollars only to find out I have worse credit than if I paid in full and end up paying a higher interest rate, simply cause I took this settlement.

I WANT TO KNOW ONCE I GET THE FRAUDULENT CHARGES AND ACCOUNTS REMOVED FROM 3 BUREOUS, HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO CLEAR AND BRING UP CREDIT SCORE. MY CREDIT SCORE IS PRESENTLY IN "POOR" STATUS-564? I GOT A POLICE REPORT AND GOING TO FAX POLICE REPORT WITH ALL HIGHLIGHTED CREDIT CARDS THAT I DONT/NEVER HAD.OPENED ACCOUNTS WITH FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

I subscribe to truecredit.com and with the scores from a recent report, I went looking for a car loan. However, after the car people pulled my report, my score was actually lower than reported on all three credit bureaus. How accurate is truecredit?

I mean all the numbers, names, expiry dates, etc on the card. Surely if someone used them online to buy something, the police could just check who or where it was delivered to and catch the crook? Or am I missing something. Just watched the Real Hustle on TV there and they got someone's details but I don't see how they could actually use them?
