Credit - April 2007

I'm currently in my mid 20's. I've been paying utilities, phone bills, and other bills on time each month. Never been late. I've always had great payment habits since I was 13 (got my first cell phone) with any bills.

To my shock, a year ago I was turned down for a car loan. Sorry to say, I didn't have thousands of dollars in cash to just plunk down on a car. I needed a loan which I can pay off, since everyone else has loans. I figured my great payment history would afford me a decent interest rate and approval on the spot.

I was denied because I had no credit! The finance guy basically told me I was stuck with the "loan shark 20% interest guys who say "No credit? Bad credit? 2nd chance financing and in house financing" run down dealerships that sell high mileage vehicles that might break down soon.

I was appauled. I got stuck with the same rates or credit category as some deadbeat who never pays bills, skips out on bills, evades creditors, or pays late all the time!

FINALLY......I was approved for a credit card with enough limit that i can consolidate my three cards with really high interest rates...whewww. I can see the money Im saving already. But my question is how bad would it effect my credit if I close those three nasty credit cards??? I know doing so will put a ding on my credit, but I will be ok with that considering I recenlty bought a new home and already have a car. Should i do it??? If not..what should I do???....eventually I would like to refinance my home and pay off my last credit card and just keep the card at zero balance for emergencies...I HATE credit cards.....HATE THEM. Once Im done paying this one I pray that I will never have to use one again.

I had a call from a debt collection computer that asked me to return the call to a number and it announced that is was a collection call. I had no idea what this was about so I thought it was an error. I returned the call and the man said "hello and then he asked me if I remembered a debt from 15 years ago." I responded "that was ancient history" and hung up on him. Did I reset the statute of limitations by responding to his question?
I did not negotiate with him or argue the debt it was literally that short and simple. But it could be seen as an acknowledgment that I knew what the debt was. I was wondering if the statute of limitations is reset in the state of CA if you acknowledge the debt over the phone opening up the potential for a fresh lawsuit. This debt fell off my credit reports years ago. I have been on google all day and this is called a “scavenger collection”.
I got the info at : http://www.bcsalliance.com/y_debt_sol.html
I could definitely use some advice on this.

my doctor sent my bill of $288 to a collection agency and my dentist also sent my bill of $294 to an agency. my question is, do i try to make a settlement with the collection agency or is it too late to go to my doctor/dentist and pay them the full amount in exchage for them to have the collection agency on my credit report.

I'm renting a car from budget tomorrow. Just wondering if I can use a prepaid credit card, since I do not own a credit card. They also do not accept debit cards. I know I used a prepaid card before when I rented from U HAUL. Thanks in advanced

He needs to change his car but cant get a loan as he has a bad credit rating,we have a good credit rating but my husband feels it may affect our chances of getting a loan.Is there any way we could help without actually borrowing money in our name?Where we would be the guarantor to enable him to get credit for a new car?He really is desperate as he needs a reliable car for work.

I bought a new car in December of 2006, I have made every payment on time. I need to know when this will reflect in my credit score. I am looking to get my score up so can get a better rate on my home loan. The house is just being built and I wont close on it until December.

Hi, I would like a loan for 6000 pound over 5 yrs. I would say my credit rating is good/fair. I am living with my parents, employed (F.T) I missed a few payments on my Next directory account about 5 months ago, but nothing else bad. I have NO ccj's ect, and have always paid things by direct debit on time. Were is the best place to get a loan? I want a fairly good APR rate. I was considering applying for a Virgin loan, but I don't want to risk getting turned down cause Ive been told this affects credit scores. Thanks.

I don't mind paying high interest rates, I just really need the cash. It would have to be an unsecured loan as I'm a private tenant. Help please!!
