i got a garnighment order for 25% of my wages. i've never heard of the company who is garnishing me. i read up on them through the better business bureau and their reputation isn't good. the order came from the courts. wouldn't i have had a judgement or some sort of warning first? how do i go about disputing this? who can i turn to? i can't afford to live if they take a quarter of my pay. i can't afford an attorney. anny suggestions?

My car was repo'ed 9 years ago. I never received any word from the creditor after they got it back. Now, about every six months I get a letter from them offering to settle for $12,000. The account doesn't show up on my credit report. Can they collect? should I try to pay? Is the time limit up?

...for a first offense, $700, in the state of Florida. Jail time, or just
probation/community service?

P.S. If the only advice you can offer is "the judge decides that" or "check your state statutes", please don't waste your time or mine answering this question. I am just looking for some simple advice.

HELP allows homeowners in most Cuyahoga County communities to borrow money for repairing or remodeling homes at three percentage points below a bank’s market rate for home improvement loans. the loan person at US BANK then called a couple days later and told me HELP turned down my loan but she could have someone from the bank call me and offer me a different proposal. He did call and told me that he could give me 15,000 for 7.99% I told him i did not want that much money yet told me i had to take out that much. Why would US BANK not give me 10,000 yet approve and encourage me to take out a BIGGER LOAN? Smells fishy. Also they stated HELP turned me down when in fact it was the US BANK itself. This makes me question if they wanted me to feel as if there was no other alternative then to go with their offer of what i feel is a subprime loan. They stated i did'nt qualify for the HELP loan because of my credit (in their words i was "50 points or so off")..i am confused it sounds very shifty

Last December I had an abcessed tooth that was giving me very bad headaches. I went to the ER a few times. I owe them a few hundred dollars but I haven't contacted them about it so now they sent it to a collection agency. What choices do I have? I want to pay the bill and I have the money now but who should I contact to pay? Would the ER accept payments from me even though they got a collection agency involved? Is my credit ruined? it's only been 5 months and I didn't think I'd have to pay them so soon. Money is hard to come by yet I don't want my credit ruined. Thank you.

My husband and I purchased a vehicle in 2004. We couldn't afford the paymets, so we returned the vehicle to the bank. They sold the vehicle for less than what was owed. Now three years later, a collection agency is trying to get us to pay what is owed. Our credit report as of 3/2007 shows the original owner reporting that the debt is written/charged off and we have a $0 balance as of 10/2004. Do we still owe this money?

I have a very high balance on my credit card, I was late for 20 days and they charged me the maximum APR @ 34% a year. I am paying almost 400.00 in interest every month.

I am reallt thinking in just stop paying the card or file bankruptcy.

But before I do this is there any other option, which one is the best?:

1 - Be in default for 2 months and them call and try to settle an amount?

2 - Call them right now and ask to reduce the interest rate to the previous one (it was 9% APR) (Even though I was late on my payments and I used all the remaining credit?)

3-File Bankruptcy

4-Just dissapear and wait 7 years to have a new credit history.

Thank you

I opened my first credit card, secured, about a year ago. There's 200 dollar limit. Three months later, I got a Shell gas card (225 limit), then in December, CC from WaMu for 1500. My last CC was opened just recently, with 500 limit. Now I think maybe I'm ready to close my secured card? I know it might affect my credit score (currently FICO 684, others around 680). It will shorten my credit history by 3 months and my credit availability by 200. Anyways, I don't use that Orchard Bank card anymore, cause they raised my APR from 16.99 to 27.99 and couldn't tell me the reason! Is it time to close it? I'd rather have 200 bucks, I guess.

Why do businesses turn to collection agencies to handle their collections? Is it becuase they dont have the time to deal with collections themselves? Is it not that big of a deal and there for they can sell the debt to someone else?Or is it because if there are any illegal practices the business can hide behind the fact that the collection agency was the one collecting?

Hi there. i recently made a couple of late payments but paid immediately the next month on top of the fine. ive been a loyal customer for years and had a low interest rate but now they have withdrawn this rate. i wrote a polite letter of complaint explaining the reasons, but they declined to change my rate back to the low rate. now they have reduced my credit limit which i intended using to help with a mortgage. can i complain to an ombudsman about their treatment, any help appreciated, thanks

I just bought a home with my boyfriend and now that I am about to have a baby I am giving our relationship a second thought. It was fine for me, but I don't really know if I want my son to grow up in that kind of home. I was just wondering if there was some way my name could be taken off the loan and the title (both our names are on these) or if I am stuck.

So many companies claiming to be "non-profit" are asking for outrageous start up fees - can any of these companies be trusted - or is it better to fight it alone? Studly help!
