You are possibly confusing the atm withdraw limits with point of sale limits.

In the U.S. with have different limits
ATM withdraw $200 to $500

Pin & Signature purchases from $300 to $5,000 or even higher .This all depends on your bank. Some banks even have different limits for pin and signature transactions.

I also know you can ask your bank to raise your daily limit some will and some won't.

Your withdrawal limit is for cash monies you take out of your account at the ATM. Your purchase power is only as good as the balance of funds in your account.
