I have three different credit cards, all in good standing, and all with excellent payment history. A Bank of America Gold card, an American Express Clear, and a Chase Visa. I've had the Bank of America Gold the longest, since sometime around June of 2005 I guess (Bank of America is also the bank I use). It started as a $500 limit secured card (where you give them $99 to deposit in a safe account for a year, and they give it back if you do well). I made multiple payments some months...so much that they made it a regular credit card in 10 months instead of 12 and I got the money back early. The bank lady had never seen that before. Now I have a $5,000 credit limit on it, and almost no balance. The only drawback is a $29 annual fee. I think this is only the second time I've paid it (for the month of June) since I've had the card, just to keep the history and credit limit going for almost another year.

My credit score is 509 and in a year or 2, I would like to get approve for a home loan. If I start to pay off my debt which is no more than $6,000 how soon will my credit score go up between now and 2yrs. or what do you suggest that I should do to get my credit score to be at least 600, and how long will it take if I start now.

Is there any way that once I pay off these debts and continue to receive good credit, that that score can actually improve and get higher? I am going to be getting a vehicle soon and am planning on getting married in Feb. 2008. Should my credit be good enough if I continue to be "clean" at this point, or should I be worrying????

Or are they only given your credit score? I know I can view my whole credit record online, but can companies you are applying for credit with do the same? Can they find out how much you owe other companies and your repayments etc. Thank you!

Does an 18 year old who appears to meet the requirements and already has three Mastercards have a fair chance of getting accepted for a credit card from American Express?

I have two homes. One is worth $410,000 (that I am renting $1500/month) and one that is worth $500,000 that I am living in now. I also have 6 credit cards (owe $45,000 on them), a car (owe $30,000). Can I file for bankruptcy under chapter 7, but sign something that says that I will pay the monthly payments on the home I am living in, but try to erase all the other debts? I am knew to this, so my suggestion may be way off?

Is there a point when creditors calling your house becomes harassament. I missed my credit card payment last month and told them that I would make good on the next bill. They agreed to that but now they are literally calling my house every half hour. Yesterday they called my house 23 times. Isn't this excessive?

I was once a typical and stupid college freshman who was taken in by the credit card companies that were advertising all over campus. It got to a point where I had seven different credit cards that were all maxed out. I was able to eventually take care of some of them, but others I had either lost track of or just could not afford to pay at the time. Two of these past credit card debts are now over seven years old and are no longer on my credit report, but they have just recently sent me a collection notice. I cannot afford to pay these now, I just finished major repairs on a car that we ended up trading in and my mom cosigned a loan for a new car that I desperately needed. PLEASE HELP! Thank you so much.

why do people worship at the alter of the almighty fico score?

why not just save up and pay for things?

You dont need a fico score for a house.
You can save up for a car in a few months with a decent pay check. if you dont have a decent pay check you dont need to be going into debt anyway.

want, want, want.

Sorry, this is two questions in one: 1) why can't banks tell whether a check is counterfeit before they cash it 2) why credit cards don't place a person's photo on them, Like a State ID or something to protect from someone using it?

I'm looking for a good credit card. I have good credit. I'm looking for a card with good cashback rewards. I would like either skymiles, or cashback would be the best. And a decent low interest rate.

I currently have capital one, and I'm just not pleased with them. Thanks guys.

such as fashion bug, my credit score goes down and I could be red flagged for having so many credit checks done. I want to know if he is correct, because everytime I go to fashion bug, the clerk says,"if you apply for a credit card through us today, you will recieve a discount on your purchase." They also say I can apply everytime I shop there just to get the discount. So, should I stop applying just for this discount, when I know my credit sucks. I've also told the cashiers my credit sucks, and they say that's fine.

With a (very) low credit score, no financial institution is willing to help me with a consolidation loan based on signature (I have no assets to use as collateral). After having lost my job and having my vehicle stolen I am no longer able to satisfy my credit card payments which have gotten out of control and it is unlikely I will ever catch up to them. They're way too high and piling up.

My credit score is way too low and 4 banks have already turned me down for a loan. Each time I apply it affects the Beacon score even more.

I've contemplated filing Bankruptcy.

My question is: If I don't file Bankruptcy and just ignore my bills, what is the difference? My credit couldn't go down any more than it is. It's in the 400's range already.

My husband and I are about to start our journey of getting out of debt. I want to lay our situation out and see if I can get some advice on our best options for getting out of debt. First of all we do not have any major debt such as mortgage,etc...just alot of self inflicted debt. We currently have one vehicle that we pay monthly and we owe about 1 year or so on it. We have four "bad credit" credit cards that we pay only the minimum on with balances totaling under $1000. We have several charge off's and collections between us two on our credit also. Nothing more than a couple of thousand if that. Now it seems easy to just split it all up and pay monthly but we are barely making ends meet paying our everyday bills (gro, utility, etc) We live on a budget and still have it hard. We have 2 children (2 and newborn) that we want to provide a decent life for. We would like to take a large loan and pay off everything and pay one lump sum, but how with bad credit? Help? Please shed some light...
