I got an invitation do not know if that is the only way and I immediately declined I can feed a lot of hungry people for the 5K initial fee and 2500 a year fee (at least when I was offered). You can call them and ask the qualifications before applying and even ask that you be considered though you may not initially qualify.

You have to be invited to get a black (Centurion) card. You have to have charged $250,000 in the past 12 months on other American Express cards.

Probably not. They are invitation only based on the amount you are already spending with them and your net worth. If you are spending in the 100,000 a month range with them you might get an invitation. The cost of the card is very expensive something like 2500 a year (not sure about this amount, but a lot more than normal). It does come with a lot of VIP benefits.

You need proof your *personal* income is high enough, and more importantly, as it's by-invitation, you need to say, have the Platinum for a while and show a steady level of activity on it ($10k a month for example)
I had the Gold for a year and spent $100k in one year, and the invitation for Platinum came.
Since then I've got rid of both as I simply didn't think the annual fee was remotely worth it
