The most important thing to do when getting a credit card is to get one with no annual fee. The interest rate is irrelevant, because you pay it in full every month. The credit limit is irrelevant, because the bank will raise it over time and you can get more than one card. Also, you should not be using a personal card for purchases over $10,000 anyway.

First, if you don't have the discipline of paying off the card completely at the end of each month, you should either throw away the card or get one with a very LOW limit.

Second, set you limit to what you really NEED, and not what you want. I do a lot of travel, and have to purchase airfare by credit card. I spend about $20,000 per month on travel, and have a limit of $50,000 on my card.

Bad idea, if you want to keep that 700. Credit Card interest alone will eat your lunch. Save money and pay cash, is the best route.

Why exactly do you require a high credit limit?
So that you can damage your hard earned 700 points?
